hey everyone. I pulled the trigger on a 1991 Infiniti Q45 today. IT has 147k on the original motor. I noticed a couple things today as I was driving her home. I'd like to list them and see if its a common problem and see what most do to resolve the issue.

No interior lights work. As in when door is opened and map lights and what not. Dash lights work fine.

The temp cluster does not light up or display anything.

No factory cd player wth??

The only things I really noticed so far. Pics coming tomorrow as it is too dark and was too dark when I picked her up too.

This is a common problem in the 90-93 Q45. Check the Infiniti Parts for Sale forum. One of our mods has been repairing them and has some for sale.

Not all Q's had a CD player. I think it was an aftermarket install at the stealerships. An auxillary adapter to an Ipod/MP3 player makes a lot more sense. Do a search in this forum and you'll find a thread from a member who makes them and left instructions to make one yourself. Sorry I can't remember his username.

Congrats on finding one of the early Q's that hasn't met the junk yard!!!

Fisrt thing, you should check to see if the previous owner replaced the timing belt guides. They are made out of plastic and if they have not been replaced the car is a ticking time bomb. I would look into this and ensure this is done before you spend a dime on the car, this issue will render the motor completely useless if it goes out. if that is done then start to seach on the other fun things these early Q's have waiting for you (transmission issues, valve cover gasgets etc.). Everything is managable over time...I had a 92' and it was fun as heck while I had it.

Overall the 91' Q was a classic, one of the fastest and powerful they produced in this first run, but alot of gremlins to chase. You want to pick you battles carefuly given the limited value of the car.

Ok here are the pics. Not the best pics and it is only after a quick spray off at the car wash. Need to do a full detail tomorrow after work.

As you can see the car is silver with 147k on it and imo the interior is in pretty good shape. I took my cd player out of my 94 J30 today and put it in but it was too dark to get a pic of it. its nothing special at all I just couldnt live with radio and tape to aux. Im located in Rock Island, IL which is right on the Iowa boarder. I ended up paying 1000 for it. Only exterior issues I see are a few dings here in there the rust starting in the quarters and the rear bumper is scraped up and showing yellow plastic. It had been in his family since day one was very well maintained and garaged until about 2008. timing chain guides were replaced at 103k. So far havent really noticed too many things other then what I had listed at top. so far it is a very comfortable ride and I think it has alot of potential.

Thank you!! The guy who is painting my 240sx is going to fix the rust and any body issues on here as well once we finish up the 240 and I can drive that around I'm going to let him do that. I havent decided if we are going to respray it factory color or something else. I have looked at many different colors and I like to use a color thats off an actual car. Right now I'm either just gonna go factory or Phoenix Yellow off of 2003 BMW M3. Open to any other suggestions.

Love the color. Interior goes great with the exterior. I never thought i'd see such a clean spoiler that wasn't just the typical "whale fin". Meh you have white gold on your lawn like I do! Think its a keeper unless you want to sell it to me

I would keep that color if it were mine

Thanks and ya I've been a big fan of SIlver and grey for sometime. Wish it was a darker grey tho. Is that spoiler from factory or is it something someone added along the lines somewhere? Not ready to sell her yet just got it on Friday so will probably keep her for a little while. Good ol white gold gotta love the stuff. Here is a picture of 89 Nissan 240sx project just to throw it in.

good score for 1 grand!!!!!! Glad to hear the timing guides were already done, overall that is the thing that will really cost you. Most everything else is pretty solid, mostly chasing gremlins that guys on this board have already figured out twice.

Good score!!!!!
