Hi Guys,I have recently got 4th Generation maxima 95 model GLE with about 106K miles. Car was not running for last 2 yrs and I need urgent help with following

1) Car failed smog check, the smog shop told me to replace TPS. and quoted me 230$ for TPS (150$ part and rest labor). Can some one please tell me how can I change TPS.

2) Filtering thru records I found car needs Knock sensor. today I filled it with 87 octane gas at arco and it knocks horribly. Any suggestion on how to change knock sensor

3) ABS & CHeck engine lights are on, I have an OBD-2 reader how can I extract the codes

5) Transmission slips occationally. the car is running on Dexon III ATF. is there anything I can do about it. Will switching to Nissan ATF or adding Lubeguard will help?

6) Other than oil change no service is done on car ever. Can anyone suggest me what service should I start with car has 106kmiles.

7) Whats the good place to buy maxima parts

8) Car is missing Bose music system, instead it has a cheap clarion music system with 2 speakers, is there any place I can buy bose.

9) Car is lowered by 3 inches, have strut tower and K&N Cold air intake., Intake is horribly dirty as is engine bay , any suggestion on how to clean them I am worried about tonz of wires in bay.

Also i am wondering can any maxima knowledge guy spend some time with me and show me around the engine bay, it seems far to complex. I am in Zip code 95008 (Campbell CA). In return I can treat the person with TJ's special red wine and cheese.

WHOO WEEE you gots your self a project car there.

I am not going through all 9 items but will touch base on some of them. Why are you replacing the TPS? what is wrong with it? And why did you fail smog? The tps wont cause it to fail a smog inspection unless it is turning on the light but thats it.

Your code reader wont work on a 95 nissan even though it has the obdII connector. You will need to use the daig screw in the ECM to pull your codes. See the maxima forum here on NICO. There is a list of how to's in there for your car. Its quite comprehensive too.

Your car is designed to run on premium fuel so you may get some pinging on accel with 87. However the knock sensor should be replaced to offer some protection. Again there is a how to in the Maxi forum.

The Bose system in the car was great when it first came out but audio technology today out beats the original system in that car. You can find a better after market alternative. Hit up our audio forum and ask some of the experts there about good sounds systems for the max.

There should have been 3 transmissions flush done at this milage. So you need to drop the pan and clean. Then refill it with new oil.

There have also been issues with the shift solonoids in the mid 90 altima and maxima trans. Cant recall if it applied to the 95 or not but this may be part of your problem.

Thankyou soo much guys for all the advice.I trusted the seller somuch that I purchased this car without driving and I got cheated anyway thats a different story.

The car's emission's level were fine but check engine light came up and shop told me that I need TPS & Knock sensors. by records TPS was changed some 3 yrs back by dealer. By anychance you think smog shop was playing smart.

Solonoid was replaced 3 yrs some 20K miles back. I did flush ATF and car is shifts much better but still slips couple of time. Do you think switching to Synthetic ATF or Nissan ATF or Lube guard will improve shifting? And also will putting external transmission cooler help anything.

I read some where that breeding breaks with Ford break fluid and resetting light might help with ABS light. If you have any comments please let me know.

I tried to pull out those plastic caps from ECU but they didn't came out. Is that platic protector is bolt on or rivet, How do I open it? Pulling on head didn't worked.

One last question is there any internet shop which sells nissan parts for cheap. I am told Plugs are 12$ a pop with nissan stealer, I am sure I can do better with the prices just don't know where to buy tuneup parts.

I though I will give you guys an update.

Tranmission shifting was actually turn out to be TPS wiring issue. Somewhere connector was broken so TPS was not sending corrrect signals to transmission. Its fixed now and car is shifting like new.

Initial idealling is 1200RPM and is very rough, But MAF is dirty so I think MAF needs to be cleaned and idel need to be adjusted
