Car: 91 Nissan 300zx NA 5 Speed. 86xxx KM (53xxx MI) RHD. All stock

Post

Im coming from the world of jeeps and trucks and 4x4s. I decided it was time for a change of pace and just bought a 91 nissan 300zx 5 speed NA. The car is all stock minus the radio and the wheels i just put on it. I dont know much about these cars. Ive only ever owned american trucks. I love the car so far. It has about 54xxx miles on it. What kinds of things should i look out for? I dont plan on doing too much to the car outside of a full exhaust with headers (but ive said that before). any advice y'all can give me would be greatly appreciated.

I see you figured out how to post pictures, so I'll skip that.

Well I can say.. If you need to use a drive through... Have a passenger or back through it. Lol jk man. That's a good find personally id love one.

Anyway 60k service
. timing belt OEM genuine is about ~75$ ALWAYS best option for a daily
. water pump kit (all idlers, and get a hydraulic tensioner for peace of mind ~175 for OEM genuine, all cam seals, crank seal, all hoses (coolant, any coolant but I believe green or blue, is best blue is about 55$ per gallon for reasons I cannot fathom)
. all drive belts.
. fuel filter.
. all oils, (engine of course, I personally use delo 5w40 cleans like pinesol on a dirty floor hah, trans 75w90, diff 80w90 w/ lsd additive, power steering (dex 2 or better ATF ONLY underlined many times).
. pcv valves (under each side of the plenum (swivel ratchet wrenches make this job 100x easier) replace those hoses they are likely to break or tear.
. spark plugs. (I use NGK iridium gapped to spec and mine loves it)
. knock sensor, replace/relocate if you have a code 34 (knock sensor circuit malfunction)

. popular upgrade is phase 2 injectors, cleans up rough idle, improved ethanol durability, longer life.
. clutch master cylinder and slave replacement would be advised as time probably wouldn't have been kind to them and could cause leaks.
. personally would hook up a stage 1 exzedy for fun.
. and as far as exhaust goes, cat back dual exit, and keep it true dual and straight as possible, and wrapped headers, downs and test pipes if you like the true smell of a car

well being stationed in japan makes finding a rhd anything much easier lol. I changed the oil and used royal purple 10w30, changed the spark plugs (still had the originals) with NGK Iridiums. i know timing belt is coming up. gonna help my buddy do his on his tt and see how i feel about it before deciding to do it myslef. ive been looking at stillen headers and lebree 2.5" downs, test pipes, high flow cats, and cat backs. only issue im having with the car right now is it will randomly die occasionally when there is a sudden drop in rpm (push the clutch in and hold it, shift into neutral, slow down fast. it doesn't sputter or anything. its just like if i turned my key off. only thing i can find is MAF sensors being dirty. Still need to change my fuel filter and air filter though. otherwise i love the car and it rides like an absolute dream.

I can see how that makes it much easier lol
I ran royal and mine didn't seem to like it, try fogging the engine with some intake cleaner and be nice when cleaning the maf. Make sure the idle holes in the throttle bodies are clean to

Clean Z. Must be nice to have access to rhd parts. I've found it can be a pain to find certain rhd items on this side of the world. Congrats on the purchase and enjoy!

I would try a upull it, or if your still in Japan maybe try one of the used car part heaven stores, or convert to 4 point harnesses

What a great NA Z32 you have their! Welcome! She looks so clean!

You seem to be on the right path. Definitely intake/exhaust, but I wouldnt spend any more money on engine mods as the hp increases aren't worth the money imo. I had a 94 N/A and was aiming way to high. Stick with maintenance and enjoy it longer.

Enjoy the sound, the cruise and how well she handles with a cockpit feel!
