What's happenin' fellas? First time posting here. I just got a 96' 240sx this past week. It's stock as hell, and it's my first one, so I'll have some questions for whoever is willing to answer. So far, I love this car. It handles really well and has pretty decent pickup for a 4 cyl.

Planning on doing about $3000 worth of upgrades before summer. Any ideas on what I should do first? Wheels and tires and brakes are my first priority, after that I'm open to suggestions.

Oh yeah, and check out my dogs.

welcome my fellow zenki owner. suspension then power mods is the way to go.

be aware though, that when you improve your suspension, your lack of top end power becomes more apparent.

\Nice car though. you MUST post pics real soon.

Actually even before suspension modding, I would highly recommend fixing ANYTHING that is wrong with the car. Or inspect and fix the system as you upgrade it. In short, whatever you decide to spend on mods, tack on 25% or so to fix any problems you come across.

Welcome to the site

First off, take care of all the general maintenance before modding, like you already mentioned you want to get new tires, brakes, etc. Check for other wear and tear items, like t/c rods, inner/outer tie rods, strut mounts, etc. Do all the basic stuff first so it doesn't come up as a surprise later.

Whats the mileage on your s14? Depending on what it is, that will dictate what you need to do. Definitely invest on getting a FSM.

These are great cars capable of all sorts of motorsport fun. Enjoy the drive.

while you're at it, pick up a service manual. i got one off of ebay for my 1996 s14. i'm in the same boat as you. *totally new to nissans and s14's.* my car is totally stock as well and am here to learn tons.

skydragoness5: i took a quick peek in the service manual on the tie rods. you're referring to the steering right? my car kinda floats around on the freeway. the steering is "loose" and have to correct more than i'd expect.

any tips on how to inspect?

Welcome. Post some pics of the car with some more info on it. Start on the general maintence. Then start upgrading. Many people start with moderate suspension then move to performance. Have some fun.

The only problem I've had so far is a little rattling noise that I only hear when I really get on it and stay on it for more than a couple of minutes. I don't think it's a death rattle, but it sounds like it's in the timing system somewhere. The check engine light is on, but I think that's just crap because the car runs very strong. Any ideas on the rattle?
