It's already odd that I'm more of an American Muscle guy and my first project car winds up potentially being a 93' Nissan 240sx? lol Not making any jokes of coarse, I'm aware of the potental. Anyways, with that said, I'm curious as to the average cost to tune one of these bad boys. Prolly have to do an engine swap cuz this one is just a 4cyl and an automatic at that. (Hey, it's the only one for sale anywhere near me!).

So, suggestions on good preformance mods that aren't gonna make me faint once I see the bill...

Expect to spend about 3K to get a good 200HP.

What engine are you planning to put in?

3g's is about what I was expecting, and now I'm switching it up and more than likely getting an 89' 240 fastback. This one is in great shape considering its 21yrs old. I'm new to tuning so as far as engines go, I was just told I'd wanna swap it with either the skyline or silvia.

This is all new to me. Frankly, Nissan talk might as well be Japanese haha

Nissan talk is pretty much Japanese..

If you're an american muscle guy... put American Muscle into the car. That's the hot swap right now! Lots of guys going LS1 and T56. You can buy all the proper mount kits, exhaust headers, oil pans, and other necessities to make it work. It's not cheap to do (LS1 and T56 alone are usually $3500), but the results are well worth it! I'd rather put $6k into an LS1 swap and make 400hp easy and reliable than to put $3k into the stock KA and make 200hp. On the other hand, I can understand the purists who rather like a nissan engine in a nissan car.... but that's just personal preference.

You'll be happy with the 240sx as a chassis for whatever you do with the engine. The 240sx is about the best option out there for an inexpensive shell to build. You will be hard pressed to find another car in this price range that is light, well balanced, stiff, has fully independent suspension, rwd, and has enough room in the engine bay to fit just about anything you choose to power it.

Start your build with suspension and brakes and make it roadworthy. Then spend the money on power and you will have a permanent smile on your face.

since your a muscle guy, you might wanna skip the 4cyl, and do an ls1 swap. kinda have the best of both worlds, i myself love a turbo car, but the ls1 swap is undeniable, great power, reliability, and fuel economy if you go FI(for a v8 anyways). add to that the light and nimble chassis of the 240sx and you have one hell of a contender.

LS! swaps are definatly dope, and try hitting up junkyards for wrecked vettes, and mulletmaros, prob get that motor mad Cheap. You could always stick with Nissan, and do VH45, I beileve OMGSHAWN is doing that exact swap right now. Check out his build thread, it is EPIC. 4.5liter twin turbo, with nissan reliability. D-O-P-E period
