Hello... id like to introduce myself.
Im 2FoetySx... Live in Arizona. :gapteeth:
i've been a nissan fanatic for many years.
I have owned and operated
91 slicktop 300zx na
and
2004 350z.
i got rid of my 350z a couple years ago due to sudden lack of income and i've been itching ever since.
Since then i have owned a Buick, and two integras. Tuggers were fun but honda is just not my scene.
On sept 8th i ran a crossed a seemingly perfect Red 93 240sx coup. Factory leather in amazing condition, working hud, good speakers, no dents clean title, the only problem is that the car is auto... eh... that will be changed when i do my swap. In the mean time the car is comfortable, clean, and will be sitting on some fresh wheels asap.
almost everything worked... until...
The speedo and HUD suddenly went out last night while i was driving. i let the car sit for a couple hours and when i returned to the car i started to drive and the speedo suddenly turned back on and has now gone out again.. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where i should start trouble shooting?? Im gonna assume it could have to do with the ignition switch because it would normally turn on as soon as i turn the key.
Another issue is the driver side window. I knew it had problems, (when i rolled it down it would get stuck and make a clicking noise as if there is a gear with broken teeth.) Now that window seemingly has no life left. Can anyone suggest where i can find a new window motor at a reasonable cost?
Lastly,.. the sun roof opens but when i try to close it the button needs to be pushed repeatedly for it to work. i think its just going to need the buttons replace for it to work but ill have to trouble shoot.
Ill post pictures asap and plan to be a big contributor to the forums. Thanks for any help.

Look in the "240sx Technical" section and you'll see write ups on the problem with the speedo and a full guide on how to hopefully fix it. The problem is with a capacitor in the gauge cluster and typically you're speedo won't work unless you've been driving around town for awhile then it'll randomly illuminate, or if the car has been sitting in the sun and the dash is nice and warm.

For the window, take your door panel off and look around first to see if anything obvious is going on, a plastic tab might have broke and put the window off track or it may just need greasing really bad. If it doesn't sound like the window is trying to do anything when you hit the switch then just run a hot wire from your battery straight to the motor (bypass the switch basically). If you window rolls up or down then you know it's the switch. BTW, the way these windows are wired from the factory you're driver side switch could go bad and keep your passenger from being able to roll their window down, can't remember if it works the other way around but I don't think it does.

As for the sunroof, sounds like my map lights, just old nasty connections in the switch, you may have some luck taking the switch apart and cleaning the tabs up, had to do that to my girlfriends altima window switch several times.

Welcome back to the family, get very familiar with your car because with each passing day these things are getting older and breaking more. Learn real quick which noises you discard as "ehh it'll be okay for awhile longer" and which noises mean "hmm probably better pull over and see what's going on" lol

Well the passenger window will go down regardless of which switch i use. The driver side window would roll down fine and then make some nasty noises when i would roll it back up and i had to help the window by hand, so ill bust it all open and check it out.
I think that sunroof idea will work though. BIG thanks for all the help and warm welcome lol
