Hello everyone,
I purchased my first 1990 240sx about six months ago at the direction of a good friend and long time 240 owner and mechanic ( he owns two himself and has participated in a number of major overhauls to his car ) but time restraints have made it difficult for him to address a lot of the small problems left with my car. I am not adverse to getting my hands dirty, and the car runs as well as I can tell being a layman, but I wish there was someone I could trust that knows about these cars that could help me diagnose and troubleshot any gremlins left in this 20 year or car.

Is anybody familiar with a knowledgabeble mechanic in the Ausin TX area that you trust to do sevice on the car? Is this even an issue? I apologize if my questions are a little silly but I'm new not only to the Nissan brand but to car ownership in general :)

Find Yost! http://www.yostauto.com/

I always do all my own stuff, but if for some reason I couldn't and had to take it to someone else, I'd pick Yost over anyone else even dealers. Back when he was still working out of his own garage I helped him for a weekend to get a few jobs done. He lived a couple houses down from some friends of mine and they always used him for little stuff. I met him and found out that this guy is a genuinely good guy. He has a great heart, always does the right thing and does excellent work too.

Not that you have to at all, but tell him your buddy Russell sent you, and say something or other about Jonathan Boyce and Mike Zeoli.
:) You'll be set. Good luck man.

Thanks Russell (?) i really appreciate it and I will look him up. I really enjoy my 240 and I'm leaning more about working on it but I have no idea what may have happened to it over the past two decades and I'd like a pro to take a look just for my own peace of mind. The worry with that, of course, is that as a green non technical owner it would be not beig able to tell a competent mechanic from a scammed who is looking to take me for a ride :p. Thanks again!

Good Day Austinite:

I am from Austin Texas and I've had my 240 for 10 years now. Done 2 SR swaps, worked on my own KA24e before the valves decided to have a date with #2 cylinder and punched a 1inch diameter hole lol. Swapped other SR's and KA24DE's.

I'm not familiar with this yost auto shop. I can definitely look at your car and tell you what it might need. How is it running?? Do you have any record of tune ups from the previous owner??

If you want any work done go to this guy. http://jimmystoptechauto.com/ Jimmy's Top Tech. He guarantees 1 year or 10k( I believe for mileage need to look at receipt lol) on his work. Very reasonable prices and good work. Had him do my wheel bearing on my Corolla and has been fine since. Dudes shop was slammed up last time I was there to pick up my car. It is on the South Side.

Best thing is to do the work yourself if at all possible. 240's overall are very easy to work on. That is the reason I still have mine. My car is at Boost Logic right now getting the rest worked on and get tuned.
