It looks like Toyota is deciding to get back into the 2-door Sports Coupe market with a lot of Subaru's help. Subaru will be building most of the cars engine and internals while Toyota will be tasked with mostly the design and look of the car.

The Altima Couple may be getting a new competitor in the market. Although not sure how much it's comparable as this is going to be a RWD car.

I agree, the headlights look like a ugly ripoff of some of the new stuff I'm seeing for VW/Audi.

One thing you can't deny is the speed this thing is gonna have. 0-60 in 6 seconds. Only 200hp, but it's super light (about 2,000lbs.).

i've noticed toyota doesn't have anything decent since the mr2 spyder died out, and maybe at least the celica but that was meh.

i don'th think it looks half bad but i wouldn't go for it. makes me think of it as another corolla.

that car is aimed squarely at the tuning and drift scene and is a direct competitor to the genesis coupe. it's the spiritual succesor to the HACHIROKU (AE86) !! It's going to be a legendary car.

I want that car so bad. . Subby's boxer engine and symetrical awd with Toyota's brand spanking new D-4S direct injection system for the flat-four engine in a lightweight coupe is going to kickass!!!

I want it

btw the above render from road&track looks like s***, this is more like it

here's a really nice article about the car:http://www.7tune.com/toyotasub...-086a/

I'm liking the look of it a little bit, have a feeling it would grow on me the more I would see it and especially if I drove it

Anyone else seeing a decent amount of DB-9 in it?! If the front end was stretched out a weee bit and the fender flares more molded into the car....looks almost identical....not a bad car to mimic IMO.

I wish I could have gotten a AE86 when they weren't known. This would definitely be something I would get, especially with such a legend behind it.

I have always been a Toyota guy, but I agree, their car line up isn't so exciting. I would definitely get this and hang on to the MR2 Turbo I'm building.

But don't get me wrong, I love my Nissan!

The car is FUGLY. It does look like an eclipes. Toyota has a NON interesting lineup of cars. Another thing about Toyota is that their cars are pricey. I'd rather buy a Honda in that case for a lower price. I'm surprised it's not a 4 wheel drive if Subaru is building the engine. Anyways it's an ugly car and our cars will still be faster then them. It will prob. cost more then a 3.5 AC as well.

hmmm, I like it, but I see Scion rear end with a Camery Hood and a new grille.

Just like any other coupe really, slick lines and a good racer appeal (and ricer) But, I would say this looks better then the Genesis

I found an artical that calls this the Celica...makes sense...

Also...the artical had this quote in the paragraph about the cars it was being built to compete with:

Last but not least, we hear that Nissan is working on its own new rear-drive compact to pick up where the old 200SX and 240SX coupes left off.

Also found this artical which was interesting:

i agree with everyone about Toyota's line up not being exciting.... one thing that could help is if they make a "Type R" or "Type S" scion TC and put the V6 cammry motor in it.... scion was supposed to be performance and Tuner but they put a small 4 cylinder in the TC and everyone acts like there TC could beat lambos all day long... at least with that V6 they would be pushing about 260 or 270 HP from the factory in a car lighter then ours so it would be doing 13's in the 1/4 mile stock. but i think the pic the OP posted it looks kind of ugly BUT the pic that mehdi posted looks real good

No, OP means Original Poster...he is talking about the very first pic in the thread.

But, I found some articals about that Supra also, and everything that I found said they had canned that car already with the economy downturn (I found 2-3 articals all with different pics but they were all similar to the one you posted). When things aren't going well you can't bet on the long shot...gotta keep it to sure bets.

Really...I think this Toyubaru will only have a Toyota tag in Europe...Scion is an American only car, and as everyone said their "Performance" division. Up until now it really has been anything but Performance...this Scion xE will start to change that...or do you think they keep the tC tag?

i just dunno. Toyota need to get back in the game. Honda is comming with a new NSX to compete in the supercar business. Nissan has the GTR. Toyota has NADA. but hey, the Japanese always finds a way to make some money.mabe Scion will make a mini Supra.

My Altima Coupe is basically my DD. I always wanted the MR2 but since it's rare, it pulls a premium on the MR2 forums, so I started building from a NA shell because it's lighter than the Turbo shell. The car is already done, just waiting on a stock intake to smog and register the car.

Specs and mods are as follows: - Rebuilt 2nd Gen 3SGTE w/ LSD - GT25 Turbo - HKS Blow Off Valve - Apexi Intake - Apexi GT Spec Exhaust - Apexi Turbo Timer/Boost Controller - Walbro 255 Fuel Pump - 93 Turbo Brakes and stainless steel brake lines - Megan Racing Coilovers - Front and Rear End Links - Front Tanabe strut bar and rear cross bar - Corbeau Racing seats and harnesses

I'm still searching for the right offsets for a set of discontinued Work Equip wheels. Sorry for the off topic post.
