Just got a new 2010 2.5 SL on Tuesday. I'm coming from a 2003 G35 and this is my first experience with the CVT transmission. Been having what feels like a CVT shift problem on take off each morning.

Basically the car has warmed up for a few minutes and been driven about 100 yards up to a stop sign where I pull out onto a 2 lane highway. When I take off from the stop sign the engine revs all the way up to about 4,000 rpm's with a loud whine before it feels like the CVT catches up. I do move during the time but it is obviously not working as designed. Once I get over 3,000 rpm's you can almost hear some grinding or clicking.

Please take a look at this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=889DV_o-N7U I shot this morning during this scenario. Any idea's where to start with the dealer on this? They are going to have a Nissan CVT Tech pick it up and drive it on Monday. But normally this only happens once a day, first thing in the morning.

Hey your cvt tranz from what i can tell from the video is a normal condition. Most people are use to feeling the car shifting however with the cvt tranz. you really loose power to the wheels and you no longer feel the car shift as you would with a normal auto tranz. Im a Porsche and Audi tech and Audi has a better version of the Cvt tranz and customers always complain about the same issue. Go to this iste will better explain how the ctv tranz works http://www.gizmag.com/nissan-n...12376/If you still think there is a problem with your car then just take it to the dealer that why you have a warrenty on the car for that reason. By the way i would highly recommend that people with a ctv tranz dont drive the car to hard i fix cvt tranz on a daily biases cause people are racein the cars like there in a Nascar race so be care full.

That's why it always pays to drive a couple different cars to see if it's something that's characteristic of all of them or if it's just that particular car.

Your feel for the acceleration of the car might be due to two things - going from a standard geared transmission to a CVT and losing 100 horsepower going to the 2.5 from the G. That transition in itself is quite a change, and I could see how the driving experience in the 2.5S CVT would be strange at first.

If your throttle input was constant across that whole video, then it trailing off at the end is not normal. Otherwise, it appears to be operating correctly. It's difficult to hear anything but engine noise from the video though. Good luck with getting it taken care of if there is a problem.

What's not normal about it? I had CVT problems, eventually having mine replaced, so I'm always interested in helping someone else wih the same problems but I don't see what is abnormal about this, although it is hard to tell from the video becasue we don't know how much throttle he's applying and if it's constant.

But basically the rpms climb and once he starts to approach his target speed they drop down to around the 1500ish mark, that's how all CVT's function. I was listening really carefully for any abnormal sounds and all I heard was the engine revving continuously. If the rpms fluctuate, go up and down with constant throttle, or rpms go up but the speed and acceleration aren't there, then there's a problem but I don't really see that happening here.

But it can't hurt to have a tech take it for a drive and check it out.

Ok if the car doesn't move immediately once you remove your foot from the brake and start applying the throttle, then yes I agree you do have a big problem. It definately shouldn't stand still until you hit 3000 rpms, definately a problem, get it diagnosed and let us know what the fix is please!

A CVT is a non-serviceable unit. If there is a problem with it, the fix is replacement of the transmission. Since Nissan added a 120,000 mile retroactive warranty to all of their CVT-equipped cars, it's on Nissan if it's an issue.

I can't tell if the clicking in the video is just something with the camera or a sound from the transmission. TS, did you ever get this figured out?
