Just got one, kind of wierd driving at high speeds at such low RPM's but I am sure I will get used to it.

My real question though is, the OD button on the shifter, I pressed it when I was going about 45 or 50MPH and my RPM's went from about 1,500 to almost 5,000RPM's. That seemed alittle extrem as I also have an X-Terra and I can drive all day long at almost any speed and the RPM's are only increased by about 500.

The manual says for increased stopping power(engine brake), understandable. But my Rogue is actually my wifes and wholly smokes if she is doing 75 on the freeway, needs to stop and hits the OD button, the Rogue will now be instantly Red Lining . This can't be good.

Any thoughts on this, is this normal?...thanks.

Yes, it is normal. The gearing and final drive are drastically different on the CVT compared to a normal automatic.

I would not recommend engaging the overdrive lock at highway speeds. I have done at at slower speeds (50-60mph) and the rpms climb slowly and the engine never hit redline. I imagine that the CVT computer would have safeties to prevent redlining the motor.

I had to try this for myself.

I activated the overdrive lock at speeds from 55-75mph. Every time the engine revved to about 5000rpm's or so, regardless of whether I was doing 55mph or 75mph. There is definitely a safety built in that prevents the transmission from selecting gear ratios which allows the engine to exceed 5000rpm's.

Manual/paddle shift Rogue's likely have the same feature that prevents you from manually shifting into too low a gear that would cause the engine to redline.
