So Ive been searching for a used 2008 AC to replace my current 2008 AC. My lease is up in less than a month and Im having no luck finding a used that will make it worth it for me. Only reason being is that I have about 40k miles on it and I had a rugged accident a year and a half ago. Imgoing to owe about $1200 in miles, probably about $400 to fix dents, and a $450 lease termination fee. Basically want to get something with less mileage and clean title. Other option is to buy out the lease for $16,000, which I was leaning towards...hard.

So I edit my search to include new cars, and I find a "new" 2008 at the same dealership I got mine at. Could this be too good to be true? Its a 2008 3.5SE CVT, dark slate, they have it listed at $26,500. Basically exact same car Im driving but only 9 miles and no $12,500 damage accident.

I dont even know how I am going to work this haggle. Any advice? I figure its been sitting there for almost 3 years, I have to be able to get them down close to $20K?

clean retail for a new 08 coupe is close to $25K I'd start off at 20 and work up from there but make sure you have a price you're comfortable is settling on

If that car has been sitting there for 3 years, they REALLY want to get rid of it. Ball's in your court. Make a ridiculous offer. Whatever you do, DO NOT let them know that you are extremely interested in that car. Feign as if you're looking for a new car and let them try and sell that one to you.

JAFO had a point. After a certain amount of time, the dealer starts paying interest on the car to the Nissan. The only way to wipe that is to sell it. Use that as your bargaining chip but be prepared to get up and walk away.. If the car was that hot, it would have sold by now. I'd offer them 18K to start and walk away if they try to highball ya..Don't worry if you don't get it on the first try..they'll be calling you! Trust us!

I was thinking at starting at $16K since that is what my lease buyout is. I am going to have to pay the leasing company if I dont buy though, so need to add that in to the new dealer price....about $2K right off the bat. Im hoping to get them to settle on the car at $20 or less and then add the $2 for $22 or less total. Good thing is I have worked with this dealership on my current ride and one previous, I think they owe me one!

Such a tough decision...Ive been going crazy for the past month. I just pray that this car is actually there and legit. Wish me luck!

heres the thing that most people forget about lease buyouts. Nissan and the dealership REALLY WANT you to buy the car. They always lose money on the resale and to them its easier to just sell it to u.

The price of your buy out is NEGOTIABLE, it's not set in stone by any means. You can bargain it down to wahtever you want it to be.... just like buying a car.

Toxic....I am well aware. The price is $17600 on my contract. I got them down to $16000 so far, that was 2 months ago. They have called me once and I told them I was turning it in. Im expecting another call and counter any day now.

I think you are definitely spot on with asking for 16k for their new car. You have to figure that with two model years old, this car has lost around (at least) 40% of its value. This brings you to $15,900.

Even though you owe more on your lease buy out, that is b/c they screw you on those types of deals. You're definitely gonna lose some on the buy out, so I would grind every penny on the fact that this car is two model years old. Almost three years!

Good luck

thats ridiculous, I've seen people get that number down crazy low. are they aware that your over your allowable miles? they like to hold people by the balls if thats the case, since they figure they got you in a corner. Anyways, I'm not sure if you read up dealer bargain tricks and tips, but you should be able to get that number lower... I wouldn't buy it for that much.

I agree with Dangeris and Couture....16k! When they say "no" (and they will) just walk away. I guarantee it'll be talked about behind closed doors and you'll be getting a call back, probably that same day. That car hasn't moved in 3 years and anyone looking for a "new" car will want the latest model year. As others have said, even though it has no miles on it, it's lost value because it's an '08 model. I wonder why they weren't able to push this off the lot sooner....

Just got back from the dealership and what a surprise...the car isnt even f'ing there. They said their "internet relations" rep forgot to remove it from the listing. There were 11 of them on the site! For 3 years?!?! IT WAS THEIR ORIGINAL 2008 STOCK!!!! I bugged out on this head, accused him of bait and switch because he immediately moved to a 2010 sedan. What a joke...

Toxik they know Im heading towards being over mileage but dont know by how much, they actually checked with the service department to verify the last time I checked in for maintenance (is that even legal?). The last 2 times I talked to them I told them I wasnt buying unless they moved on the price, they have called me once since then and I said pretty much straight up NO. Im going to get banged with around $2K in fees if I turn it in. Going to keep looking for another Coupe in the meantime but I think buyout might be my only option at this point. Its KBBing around $20100 retail, $18K private party.

You can't look it only in terms of how much would it be to buy the same car from another party. Take a total of your lease payments + the buyout you'll be paying, if its a ridiculous amount, maybe you should walk away just so you don't regret a bad financial decision later on.

The majority of your turn in fees maybe in stupid repairs that a car detailing job + dent removal would cut in more than half. At the same time those things would cost you less. Did you get your car pre-inspected? If not, do it and go to a shop tell em what the inspection needed to be fixed. This is the mentality I was going through when I was thinking about buying out my lease or returning.

Yeah Ive weighed the numbers this way and that way, the amount I will pay for the repairs I had quoted by a local body shop, thats the lowest amount. The big chunk is going to be in the miles Im over, about 7,000 miles at $0.25/mile, $1,750. Completely miscalculated my work commute because I started a new job 3 days after I purchased. Im kind of a freak when it comes to things like this, I work as a senior buyer so finding the best deal is hard-wired into my brain. It all pretty much works out even with the exception of the risk of something major going wrong as a result of the accident I had. Im the only one to drive the car and it still rides fine with no issues thus far. It was rear AND front end collision though, not good.

As for inspection, my lease company actually doesnt do a pre-inspection. They take the car and then tell you what you MUST pay. If I turned it in, I would get the dents fixed to avoid them telling me I owe them some rediculous amount of money.

I dont know, I have the car until 04/15, going to keep looking around and probably make my decision in a month or so. Thanks for the input/advice.
