New 20 inch wheels...

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Hi... New Infiniti owner here I love the EX but the rims were killing me. I just bought a new set of Chrome 20 inch wheels. I got a great deal on the rims ($160 per) so I wanted to make sure and get the best tire I could get so that I wouldn't have to lose any of the ride quality.

I ended up getting the Michelin Pilot Primacy 245/40R-20 . I was assured that these would be the best choice for my car (by several friends AND the tire store guy). Long story short, I just got the wheels yesterday and drove home about 30 hwy miles. The road noise is insane! A nice annoying low hum at 50+ MPH and a strange howl at 30 - 40 mph.

I paid about $1500 for the tires alone! I love the look and ride of these wheels but the road noise is hard to deal with. Hopefully it will die down as they break in.

Anyone else on 20 inch rims? If so, what tires are you using? I am posting a crappy pic. I'll post better ones when the rain stops.

I think the rims look very nice on your car. Which brand is it?

I have exactly the same color as your EX and window tinting. I'm also looking for a set of 20" whees.

I also want to ask you is there any change on ride quality? I hope you won't be too annoyed by the road noise.

Welcome to the group, ericb214!

Sorry to hear about your tire noise woes, though.

Any chance that only one or two are noisy (in which case you may be able to simply replace the defective ones)?

A couple more questions about your changeover:1. Did you just use the TPMS sensors from your original wheels or get new ones?2. What did you do with your original wheels/tires?

Cheers,David

The rims are MB Sparks:

and the tires are listed on the above post. Well... I did some driving today and I think I may have over reacted a little bit. There is definately some more road noise, but it's not that bad. A buddy of mine with a 5 series BMW has these tires. He's on his second set and according to him they "break in" in a couple hundred miles. I'm going back to have the lugs re-torqued on monday. I will find out if this noise is normal for these tires or if I can try to replace one or more if necessary.

The ride quality is exactly the same. The only difference is that when you hit a turn it handles substantialy better.

As far as the TPMS, they just transfered them from the factory rims to the new ones. I have the original set of wheels (minus the TPMS) sitting in my garage. I'm considering putting them in craigslist or ebay.

It's a shame... At the dealership the rims alone cost almost $400 per rim! The tires go for about $225 each. I'll be lucky if I can get $1100 for the whole set. If anyone is interested, let me know.

I'm going to take some more pics in the morning and post them. They really make the car look incredible.

I would be interested in the stock wheels if they are 17. Let me know please. I'm only looking for one at this point but might be able to work something out for the set.

I'm selling four 17" stock wheels (and tires) of EX 35. Mileage is only less than 800 miles as of today. Please ping me if you are interested. Thanks.

don't know if this has been mentioned but toyo proxes ST are by far the best option out there for bang for the buck, performance and styling. they even have proxes II out now. they can be tough to come by but are definitely worth it compared to others.

look on the fx forums at freshalloy if you want more opinions/results.
