Hello everybody,

I just want to first say I love this forum and I think you guys are doing an awesome job. Anyways, I bought a 94 300zx n/a (5spd) with ~80k miles about a month ago. I love that car, but yesterday I let one of my buddies drive the car and he told me that he heard a wierd sound when he'd go into 4th gear. Low and behold when i get in the car I hear it too. It sounds like a wierd chalky kind of grinding noise (gears are not grinding and go in smooth) and it occurs at about 1.5-2.5rpm's and then it goes away. It is starting to effect the other gears as well, but its especially noticeable in 4th. Also I hear a slight knocking from the engine when I come to a stop and the wierd thing is that it seems to go away when I take my foot off the break. I dont know what to think about this because I really dont know alot about cars and my friends think it could be a number of things but they're not sure either. Im going to take it to a shop tomarrow, but I'd like to know what you guys thought about the whole thing... Tune up? Plugs? Injectors? etc...

Thanks,

Alex

Welcome to NICO!

Seeing that you're in Chicago you might want to check out Ultimate Z, I think they're still around that area and they have a pretty good reputation in the Z community for their work.

For the noise in the transmission try using Redline Synthetic MT90 fluid for the transmission. Usually cures noises from the Z32 transmissions.

Also, make sure that the 60K mile maintence has been performed.

See you around the boards!

Hey,

Thanks a lot for the response and your help. Im going to get the 60k tune up and see if that cures any of the problems in addition to the trans fluid you suggested. Also, the previous owner gave me some bosch platinum spark plugs, but one of my friends said that they're not good with z's... Is this true? What kind of plugs should I get instead?

Thanks,

Alex

Hey no problem, that's what I'm here for. The car looks good in the picture

As for the spark plugs, do not put that bosch garbage in there. Run the proper NGK Platinum plugs in the car. That's the only way to go.
