Hey everyone. I just found this forum the other day. I just purchased a 1978 280Z. Mostly in good shape just needs to TLC. Steering needs new bushings, breaks need some work, needs new struts put in (which I have), and lastly gear shift is sloppy. Right now this will just be a weekend toy.

As for the gear shift I was looking at getting a short throw shifter however I am having issues finding one for this year model. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Now for the very hard question. I would like to do some sort of clutch handle on the gear shift as sometimes my knee doesnt like to play nice. I have searched high and low everywhere and have yet to find what I am looking for. More than likely will have to create something myself. If anyone knows of any type of system that could be purchased please let me know.

ps. once I can get pics to work I will post pics of the car right now.

Thank you,Yarael

the sloppy sifter is a comon bushing issue, you cna replace with stock plastic bushings or you can use chrystler door pin bushings which are brass and a bit trickier to get fitted proppery but wear a lot better

as for a had clutch, I suspect you'll ned to look at companies that do handicap retrofits, I know an amputee wiht a vette who had an electronic clutch added to his C4 corvette, not cheap but effective

on the cheap you might be able to retrofit a motorcycle clutch level

as for shortenign the throw, most peopel just cut down and rethread the shifter as it's just simple solid piece of steel, there is a shifter fomr a pickup truck that can be swapped it, it has a longer portion belw the fulcrum as it is longer to fit the higher seated position of a truck you'd still have to shorten and rethread the lever

As for the clutch, I'd seen a system once that used a large solenoid to actuate the clutch. I think it was something like a power window motor. but anyway, on the shifter there was a button like you see on the Automatic Trannys that you'd push to operate the clutch. I don't know how hard or expensive it would be to replicate a system like that. you might look at electronic actuators and get a price. I imagine you'd want the clutch pedal to still operate too. Maybe use a 2nd clutch master cyl and actuator "T"'d into the Clutch line.
