Hello everyone,

Well, we are the pround owners of an 08 QX56. Just traded in our 07 LTZ Suburban on it this past weekend. My initial thoughts comparing the two are really that there is no comparison. The infiniti is just simply a notch above in the comfort and luxury department.

The main question i have is concerning the noise entering the cabin from the engine. At an idle and while accelerating it is fairly loud and seems to vibrate a little as well. This seems odd since cruising at 80 mph the vehicle is nearly silent?? The vehicle does have 115K on the odometer so i don't know if this is normal or not.

I did a quick search on the way home with it on my phone and i saw some comments from others who had similar questions and the responses were that most were dead silent and most could not even tell if the engine was running. I never came across and solid answer to the question though.

Also, is it possible to listen to music throught the bluetooth or just use the phone?

thanks in advance

Ok, I have done a little more searching online and discovered that the exhaust manifolds on these vehicle are faulty. The sound I am hearing is a droning noise and vibration at idle and while under acceleration. At cruising speed it is nearly silent. For those who have experienced this problem, does my description fit the sound you heard? I read to accelerate alongside a wall with the window down and it should be pretty loud. I will try that the next time I am in it to see if it sounds different.

If that is the problem i assume i am screwed because it is over 80K miles and i read the extended warranty only is good till 80K. I may be jumping way ahead of myself but I saw that many have just used aftermarket headers instead of factory parts. I would like some advice on the best direction to head with this. I am taking to my mechanic tomorrow to see if it is indeed a cracked manifold.

If i am off base here, what other suggestions do you have about why it is so loud?

thanks

Welcome to NICOclub! Glad to have you as a new member of the QX56 Forum!

Sorry to hear about your issue. I can tell you the sound is certainly not normal, there is no question about that. I previously owned an '04 QX56, an '08 Armada, and now a 2010 Armada. I know this vehicle and the engine is normally very quiet. Do you have a mechanic friend or someone that would be able to listen to it for you?

I do have a mechanic and we took it for a drive for him to listen. It's not the exhaust manifolds and he noticed it could be felt in the floor as we drove. He thought maybe a motor mount?? We put it on the lift and all looked good. All the skid plates were tight and the mounts were good. The only thing we found were the rubber bushings where the sway bar runs into the frame were worn and appeared to be sqiushed out. Don't know if that could lead to vibration?? I am already starting to get used to it so I guess if we can't find it it won't be the end of the world.

Any thoughts??

We did find a crack in the axle boot and the rear seal in the transfer case is leaking.
