I just bought a 2003 murano with 67,000 miles on it. It is a nice vehicle except that there is a slow coolant leak. Takes about 3 weeks for my coolant reservoir to look nearly empty. No overheating problems yet. I took it to a local shop and they pressure tested the coolant system, and didn't find any leaks. They couldn't successfully pressure test the reservoir itself. Could it be the tank itself leaking? Also, possibly related, is a strange water tricking/gurgling sound when I accelerate. Sounds like it is coming from the passenger side under the dash. I have read that this could be air going over the heater coil or something. But it really sounds like liquid. Thought these things might be related. Anyone have any ideas? Also the Murano is loud when accelerating. Louder than any other vehicle I have owned. Is that normal?

Don't have any of those 3 symptoms on my 04 SE with 66.5K miles. They don't sound normal to me.

Only things I have done besides oil and filter changes in almost 5 years (besides the 3 recalls) are normal wear item replacements - battery, accesory belts, antifreeze, wipers, tires, and brake pads. All of these were done preventatively - that is, before they were totally worn out.

I would take yours back to where you bought it and have those things checked out. Especially the coolant loss.

An update for anyone out there that has read my post:

I have been trying to tell the dealer for the last 9 months that I think my head gaskets are blown. They keep making up new reasons that I have having problems (the problems consist of a maple syrup smell, no heat at idle, gurgle or swooshing sound under passenger side dash, shaking at startup). Finally they listen to me and I tell them how to check for the gasket problem and lo and behold: head gaskets blown, $3100 to repair. I only have 79,000 miles on the Murano. I have opened up a case with Nissan Customer Relations. I will report back here with what they say. Obviously I am out of warranty at this mileage, but my vehicle had full service records when I bought it at 67,000 miles, and this should not be happening.

Sorry to hear of your issue! Quite frankly, Nissan/Infiniti is purse s***! The only thing Nissan/Infinit really has going form its self, is the cars are fun to drive.

However, these cars are just plagued with numerous issues that just carry over from year to year and model to model. This is simply unacceptable. Good luck with Nissan Consumer Affairs too, they are pretty much useless buffoons that will deny your case file. You may just end up having to get the matter fixed from a good mechanic for a fraction of the cost---then SELL your Murano ASAP!! Because more $$$ problems will arise before you reach 100k miles.

i paid $3k to fix the head gaskets. the murano works great now. to the poster above: there was no fuel damper problem.

should i sell now while it is working good, or should i keep driving it till the wheels fall off?
