half a pack of cigarettes...and some beer later....my back hurts...my hands have blisters...and I'm beat...all for the sake of my new MMR polyethylene subframe mounts to go with my decked out suspension. So yeah if I ever wreck this car...I'm parting and calling quits...because let's face it ...subframe bushings are a beeeeoooootttccccchhhhh! Oh yeah the front subframe bushing sleeves are triple sleeved! the backs weren't too bad.

easier way.

1. remove the subframe2. remove the links, diff, knuckles3. put the subframe itself into the back of a pickup4. have a machinist deal with the subframe with a press5. you deal with the bushings on the other links. 6. go back to the machinist after getting the rear links complete.7. pay the machinist8. hear him/her complain about how much of a hassle it was9. coerce the machinist to help you load the subframe into the pickup again.10. take it home and reassemble the links, diff, and put it back on the car. 11. down a 6 pack with a few friends that helped you put it all back together.12. alignment13. say "tada!"

I did mine in about 2 hours, get yourself a Mapp gas torch, and a sawzall. Burn out the rubber, cut the metal bushing - it's less than 1/8th in thick - and it will come right out with a screwdriver and rubber hammer. I went with solid aluminums instead of urethanes.

I only did it because I want the stiffness of aluminum bushings without the noise transfer...the reason why I got the mmr.. POLYETHYLENE (different than urethane).. bushings. Plus I'm going to put a post up on how they perform...let people make their own judgements. Plus I have almost a fully built suspension on my s14...so I figured what the hell...you do have to be careful though not to cut through the subframe seats themselves. I practiced on a trashed subframe first. Anyway I gotta take the subframe to get blasted now and then I'm going to get it either powdercoated the same color as the nismo powerbrace or paint it myself with some heavy duty enamel.

+1 for the torch and sawzall. thats how we did mine. i got the MMR bushings too and so far so good!

collars work ok until your subframe bushings seperate completly like mine did. i had the collars before and they still clunked as the subframe loaded and unloaded. so if you're bushings are shot, there is no fix except new ones.

hmmm front subframe bushings, never heard of someone replacing those, can someone enlighten me? Or are you talking about the 2 "front" bushings out of all 4 "rear" bushings?

^^ yes that's what they're talking about.

did you guys just get your bushings from the mmr-direct.com site?My bushings are completely gone so spacers ain't gonna help and i didn't really want the solid aluminum ones.

so let us know what you think of them.

collars push on the remains of the stock bushing. not always the best way to do it. especially if they've degraded beyond the point of being anywhere near useful. The more permanent solution would be to replace the bushing totally, but it's a real hassle.

im not saying it has to work as good as the spacers, just better than the bushings alone. have they made somthing that can be installed onto or over the bushings while the subframe is still on the car. How about just welding the subframe to the frame? wouldn't that work? and if the weld breaks, o well, youll be back whare u where in the first place.(providing that you left the subframe on the car when you welded it)

I've still gotta sandblast the subframe and get it powdercoated the same color as the nismo powerbrace...or just paint it...plus I've got to tap out one of those small little 10mm bolts that hold the ebrake cables to it....son of a beeeoootttch broke on me ...even with pb blaster. I'll let you know how they do though...they've been sitting in my freezer this whole week. I can't even drive the car till Stance/TFact. gets me my z32 adapters for my gr pros which they say...are coming "soon" (already paid).

I would've done spacers but my rear end (no perverted connotations please) had already taken enough abuse. the bushings were toast...I'd already drifted and done the dragon (www.tailofthedragon.com) enough to separate the inner sleeves from the rest of the bushing most of the way. The sawzaw would be your best bet...I forgot my sawzaw though @ the bar I work at....we were doing some renovations. Just make sure not to cut your subframe...it is kind of easy to do.

ya its the whole "dropping the subframe" part that gets me. since my state of the art lift consists of a cheap harbor freight jack and some rusted 80's axle stands. But i hate my crappy stock floating rear subframe!
