but my car was broken into 2 nights ago. luckily I was able to find the bastards within 24 hours.
Anyways, onto the story. lol
I stopped by the shop where I work at part-time after my primary job. well, when I got there, I noticed my hood was unlatched and my door was slightly open. I walked over to my shop manager and asked him if he used my battery or anything and he said he hasn't touched my car since we pushed it out of the shop to finish up this kid's SR swap (that was a day and a half ago). He came into the shop a few times, sometimes to even help out with the small stuff. We knew he was a little short on money, so we made some pretty good deals with him (we swapped his SR in for 650 bucks and I traded my intercooler setup PLUS installation for his KA motor). I spent many nights staying at the shop with my boss making sure everything was 100% set with his car and made sure it ran well. I even sold him my downpipe for real cheap and even installed it (20 bucks installed).
Just out of curiosity, I popped my hood to find my AEM intake and 2" Koyo radiator gone. Someone slashed the hoses and swiped my intake. first thought was, "Who?". well, I looked inside my car and my gauges were gone as well as my radio, but the radio wasn't cut, it was unplugged. From there I knew it had to have been another 240 owner or someone who knew where to disconnect everything (which led me back to another 240 owner).
A week prior to all this, we were finishing up the SR swap on a black 240 coupe. Got the car running nicely and all the kid needed was a thicker radiator and a boost gauge and he was pretty much set. He also mentioned needing a radio for his car, as it was going to be his daily driver. he continually asked to trade something for my gauge and I told him nothing was for sale and that my car wasn't a parts car. He asked how much I wanted for the radiator and I persisted to tell him it wasn't for sale and it got to the point where I told him to stop harassing me about it.
Bingo.
I got on the phone with the kid (and I say kid because he's 17....not quite a legal adult) and asked him to be honest with me and that there would be no cops involved if he did something. I even gave him a chance to bring all my parts back down to the shop and leave and never come near the shop again. He must have thought I was born at 21 years of age or something, so he told me that he didn't know what I was talking about and that he's been working on his friend's Cadillac all day. At that point, I told him that his chance was given and that the police were going to get involved.
I explained my findings and compared it to the kid asking about it the week before and the cop I talked to said that it made sense and that the kid is guilty without a doubt.
About an hour and a half later, he came down to the shop and he was asked questions about the incident and he ended up telling the police it was him as well as his cousin. both were arrested for not only my car, but 2 other of our customer's cars. I'm just really glad I caught the ***hole before it was too late...within 24 hours too! But I wasn't able to get my parts back just yet (he said that his parts were at a friend's house).
Anyways, I'm sure plenty of you guys know this, but watch what people see under your hood.
