Not sure that I remember it in the 97+, but there were some late G50s that were kind of a purple metallic color... I think they called it eggplant. I looked at one in great condition twice - same car different sellers a few years apart. The color was a deal killer for me too.

My top two color picks for the Gen 2 would be pewter (light metallic green), which I have, or silver.
