Never knew there was an EX forum...glad I found it

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Car: Infiniti EX Journey AWD 2008

Post

I actually bought my 2008 EX back in August of '08 because I had a Lexus IS300 that got totaled in a multi-car accident. There are a few standard features on the Lexus that's missing on the Infiniti that I miss (Xenon headlights, daytime running lights, seat memory, power trunk release) but the power and handling of the EX AWD is pretty fantastic. I test drove the BMW X3, Honda CRV, and Toyota Rav4 V6, but they couldn't compare.

What surprised me when I was driving it around for the first 6 months was that I only saw 2 EX's in the LA area. I actually kind of felt lonely being the only EX driver out there so I'm just kind of happy to find a forum where I can read up on other EX driver's questions and answers.

I only have 10K miles on the car so far (drive my junky Toyota most of the time), so I'll have some questions that hopefully someone can help me out with.

Hope to meet some of you soon.

Depending on which package you bought, the EX35 is equipped with that. The Xenon lights can easily be upgraded and added to match factory headlights, if anything the aftermarket ones are more crisp and whiter looking like a BMW, the factory ones from what I heard are okay. I have a 2010 EX35 AWD Journey, but from what I thought, the DRL's are standard, it may be turned off on your car, if you look above your high beams (its a tiny bulb above the high beams that operate independently, I know some use DRL's and highbeams as one bulb), if it is, you can have the dealer turn them on for you. I switch between forums and right now the other one I go to is http://www.infinitiscene.com/ and there is a lot of FX owners but the EX section could use more users as well. Welcome!

P.S.

I was stuck between the EX35, Volvo XC60 and the Audi Q5. Glad I chose the EX and the Q5 is a tough one and nearly impossible to negotiate, also every other person around here has one. Its very rare to see an EX35 especially for a guy in NY lol. But I like it that way, at least I can say I have a one of a kind.

Where I live I don't see either very often, but if Q5 is that much more popular, it's a bit of an injustice in my opinion. Not that I think it's a bad car, far from it, but to my eyes it does look more plain inside and out, has weaker engine and acceleration, and a higher starting price for a model that has clearly weaker standard equipment (doesn't even have projector lamps). To get it to have any distinguishing features over EX such as Xenon/LED front lamps and panoramic roof, you have to pay about $6000 (Canadian) more, and you'd still be missing a feature like Start Engine button for example. It just seems like you literally have to pay through the nose to get anything interesting in Q5, and as someone mentioned above, with Infiniti, it's actually possible to get dealer to give you a nice discount, which makes the price difference kinda huge.

Not to mention that in Canada, Q5 seems to be missing some features compared to US version - it doesn't seem possible to get wood trim in it, or the more expensive leather variant for example (the base leather doesn't look too hot in photos)

I don't know about the 2010 EX, I bought the 2008 model back in 2008 and it did not.

There are more standard equipments on your 2010 model though but wouldn't it be great if it did have a remote trunk release?

Zarar - thanks for the other website. I'll check it out too.

No problem, anytime. For the power trunk release, I personally haven't even looked for it let alone even open my trunk since I bought the car a month back. On the Infiniti website it does say Power Trunk Release option, but did not see one on my remote, maybe inside the vehicle there is a latch near the driver side (not really sure)?

I think for it to be effective, it should be on the Key-fob.

If it's part of the package you got, sometimes, you can push your key fob in a certain sequence or within a certain time lapse and that could open it.

How's the AWD performing in the NY area with all your severe winter conditions? I drive it around in the LA rain so it hasn't been much of a challenge here. Haven't even had a chance to go snowboarding this season so couldn't test it on the snow yet.

Hope you keep enjoying your EX!
