Alright! Here is my quick and easy write up for
CA18det coilpack replacement.
I used the coilpack from a 2005 Dodge Neon.
I used:
-Neon coilpack
-Neon coilpack pigtail
-"build your own" plug wire kit from local parts store
-soldering stuff
-heat shrink
First: Find the four coil signal wires. They should be red-green, red-white, red-blue and solid red. Follow them back from the coils to a place near the firewall.
Cut the wires, leaving enough length to position the new coilpack where you want it in the engine bay.
Solder the signal wires for cylinders 1 and 4 together. Solder the wires for cylinders 2 and 3 together.
Plug the Neon pigtail into the Neon coilpack. Looking at it, the wires on each side goes to its corresponding coil. The center wire is for switched 12v power.
The red-blue/red-green should be on the right side for cyls 1/4. The red/red-white should be on the left for cyls 2/3.
I had extra wire (red) soldered in before the pigtail from when I had wired up other coilpacks during testing.
Solder the appropriate joined signal wires to their corresponding pigtail wire. Also solder the center wire on the pigtail to switched 12v power.
The coils are labeled for each cylinder.
I heat shrinked all of my solder points for cleanliness and durability.
I still haven't chosen a mounting spot for the coilpack, but I will post a pic if I come up with something.
As for plug wires, I built custom lengths using a kit from my local auto parts store. I'm sure others can be found to work, but the custom ones are super long!
The coilpack runs around $80 at the parts store or $15 at my local junk yard. The wire kit was $50. Everything else, I had lying around.
The result is a clean rev, all the way to redline. I am only running stock boost so, be wary, overboosters! Good luck and have fun!
