i know it looks long, but i would greatly appreciate your time and input, anything would help. thanks!
so today i went to a dealership today and a new guy comes to help me. he doesnt know jack about the car or its powerplant. but he was a cool guy and we ended up talking bout his own car most of the time.
the car is a 03 M45 with 40,XXX miles and on the paper, it listed "market price 30,000" then it said their price of "24,000" then i told them i saw online it went for 21,000. i was lookin at around 23,000 out the door. i checked the car for about an hour just the exterior cosmetics. had many chips and scuffs/scratches as well as chipping damage to the grill. i went and talked to the manager and told him, "straight up i want this car but im not looking to go over 20,000 out the door with it" (which is a negotiation price drop of 2,000" then he said, "straight up, this is what i paid for the car, he showed me a paper with a list of car and prices and i read on top it said "inventory prices..." the price said something like 20,800 for the M45. in my head, i said "this is total bull****, this is probably just any piece of paper saying a price. the guy then says "best i can do is give you employee discount, around 500 off." he said hes had the car 2 months and if it doesnt sale next week, hell return it back to wholesale.
i then took the car for a drive with the salesman. VERRRRY SMOOOTH. =] i talked to the guy on a personal level (he was early twenties). i told him i want us to help each other, he helps me buy lowering price, i help him by buying it (it would be his first sale) i told him to work something out with his manager that i would go max of 20,500 out the door. tell him that he has lots of cosmetic flaws and it should deface value of the car significantly.
1) the paper he showed me listed the car as 20,800 and hes selling the car for 21,000. was that paper BS? i dont think he bought that car that expensive.
2) is 2 months an average time they keep cars? would he return it back to wholesale.
3) should i be able to lower price significantly, due to the fact that there are many paint chips, light scratches, scuffs, and minor grill damage?
any tips on how i should negotiate this situation?
