Well, I've come to the point where I am trying to decide on the wheels I want. I'm hoping to go with something with a wide lip, something V.I.P, and that means that I'll most likely be dealing with a negative offset. Also, I wanted to stagger the width between the front and the back.

My questions: What kind of negative offset will the Q's rear suspension tolerate before I start affecting my handling? Has anyone tried this before? What was your experience? Same questions for staggering the width.

Also, I've had one heck of a time trying to find the offset for my factory wheels. If I can find that, I'll start trying to determine what kind of offset I can get away with. Anyone who responds should keep in mind I'm using the 'Touring Edition' wheels from a 2000 Q45.

Very few here run those kinds of fitments.

Here's a few examples by one ton garagehttp://forums.nicoclub.com/zer...62523

That should take you to the 1st of 3 posts by him in that thread.

You may also want to check out the Wheels/Tires sub-forum, more flush and VIP fitment discussion there than in here.

I imagine the engineers chose the correct offset, strength, weight for the tire specified.

it all depends on how much you want to do. if you want to pull the fenders and run mad camber, thats all good. what kind of body mods do you want to do?

My first approach to the car was luxury/SPORT. I'm not really looking to build a skidpad superstar, just something with a luxury ride that doesn't scrub. I'll probably say no to negative camber. I don't want to start compromising tire wear or the factory suspension geometery for the appearance. No offense intended, I think it looks cool.

I'm not really sure what it means to roll a car's fenders. Always heard the term, never practiced it. I'm open to the idea...I think.

As far as the body, I do plan on some kind of kit, but something that retains the O.E.M appearance while being slightly aggressive. In other words, nothing huge or over-the-top. As long as rolling the fenders doesn't compromise that goal, I'd consider it.

I also started thinking about getting the look I want without straying from factory tolerated offsets. I'm pretty sure the width of the lip isn't usually measured, but 2.5" would be ideal.

Thanks for the responses, guys.

*EDIT*: Does anyone happen to know where I can find the factory measurements for my wheel, including offset? I think I might've found something I like, but I don't know the specs to put into the handy-dandy offset calculator. The factory wheels are the five-spoke Touring edition wheels from a 2000 Q. I'm looking at WORK Meister S1's. Here's a linky to it's specs: http://www.workwheelsusa.com/wheels/ Second row from the top, second from the left.

If you scroll up to the top of the thread I listed there are some "stock" fitments to compare. And a quick search should return a thread or 2 with the factory wheel specs.

In short, if you as much wheel and lip as you can get without "modifying the body" to clear them look for something in an 8 or 8.5 width for the front ~35 offset and up to a 10" wide rear ~44 offset.

I currently have 18x9 +35 all around on mine and only have a little tire rub (inner plastic fender liner) when going over large dips on the highway.
