Hello all...I just wanted to say hello and that I have enjoyed the posts that I have read so far. I just bought a 2005 G35 Sedan (21,500 miles) TWILIGHT BLUE PEARL today and I'm so excited I can hardly sleep! All I can do is think about where I can go in it tomorrow! Since this is my first G35, I was wondering if any of you can share any words of wisdom regarding, what type of gas (premium vs. regular) I should use, where to get oil changed, etc... I guess just some basic things I SHOULD and SHOULD NOT do in it!!

Thanks again for all the GREAT posting, take care and be BLESSED!!

Did you get an auto or a 6MT?

Well i let walmart do my oil Mobil 1 extended preformance! only got to change it every 15k miles.. I have the filter changed at 7500 lol.

I use premium, It gets more preformance! and miles per gallon.

I will get about 30-40 miles more per tankful using premium. Some of the other guys have different opions about gass and oil lol

But if the manual says premium... It is for a reason!

Good luck with your new G

My two cents,

First off aboard !

I have the dealer change my oil & filter every 3,750 miles. Mainly because they do it for free and give it a bath and all I do is sign a paper saying it was there and they did blah blah blah to it. They do it pro bono as long as I have my service done there (ie: 30K service, 60K service etc. etc.). Free oil changes for the life of the car, gotta love it

According to the sticker they're using Castrol GTX in it. All my other cars I use Valvoline but Castrol's not bad either. I'll just go ahead and keep my mouth shut on the ones I have a less than desireable opinion of

Also as far as fuel. My dealer said they use 87 in all their cars but open the fuel door and read what it says in big bold print "PREMIUM UNLEADED FUEL ONLY" this is also restated in the manual. Yes you can run 87 in it , however you'll be kinder to your engine in the long run if you run what it was designed for in it .

Welcome to Nico!!

I loved my wife's 05 sedan so much that I traded my Pathy in on a second 05 sedan!!! (mine was previously loved with 40K miles).

As for fuel, I would stick with Premium. My cars don't like the 87. They BOTH spark knock on 87. Now, to be honest, I have very sensitive ears when it comes to cars. So, I hear the knocking when my wife doesn't.

As for oil, I use synthetic in all of my cars. My buddy is a master car/truck mechanic and reads up on EVERYTHING new that comes out about automobiles. He's retired, but teaches diesel mechanics at a nearby community college. He is EXTREMELY conservative when it comes to cars. He says that synthetic is much better on the internal components of the engine.

If you use the regular oil, just make sure you change it every 3k miles.

Lots of STRONG opinions here on GAS and OIL, but MINE is the only correct one!!!

Where to go to get your oil changes?? I would probably go to my local Nissan dealer if I didn't do it myself. I would stay away from the quick lube places. TELCOMAN recently posted a great VID showing how one of these places was charging for work and not performing the service.

TELCOMAN also does a great job in reminding us that we should be loading up our 401K instead of our cars with mods.

Congrats!!!

Welcome aboard!!

IMHO - Get your oil changes done at a dealership so you can build a relatio nship with a Service Manager (it may be to your benefit in the longrun)

I only use 91 octane in my G's. There are MANY posts on this topic if you do a quick search.

Any other help needed... we are always a click away!

Be sure to get some pics up in the Members Rides area!

Thanks for the information....! I bought a automatic sedan. I believe that I am going to stick with premium. What does Walmart charge for changing your oil and using mobil 1?

Hey....

Thanks for the info! I have been wondering if I should take it to the dealer or have someone like Big 10 Tire change my oil.

Wallmart charges $46.95 then i Up grade the filter... The (Mobil 1) company doesn't make a filter with their name on it for our G's.... So i use the best filter that they have i think it is like an extra 5-7 bux... It comes out to be like 60 bux.

See i have a deal with walmart My GF mother works there, so i use her discount card and get 10% off the oil change!

Congrats on the auto, Hope you enjoy it, and that it makes many memories as mine has!

I guess you could say it was a relationship with my dealer but not really (I don't so much like them per say ) and no it's not accross the board. It was in my contract when I bought the car and to my knowledge they've stopped doing it for new buyers. I'm sure if you knew about it you could hanggle it into the deal though. The other local dealer out here never had that policy so to keep my oil changes for free I have to go to the same dealership I bought my car from and get the regular service done there. If I stop doing the scheduled services with them then I've heard they'll stop doing it for free after awhile.
