Im starting a budget drift build s13 DD.
i recently bought a 93 s13 in amazing shape and decided its time to start sliding already...
Its a red SE coupe in amazing condition. Factory leather, working hud, mostly great paint, AND>>>> 80k original miles.

The only problems.

driver side window need help getting to the top... sunroof opens but doesn't close... and its automatic.

Questions.

Will a ka24de with mild mods (exhaust and intake) get me enough power to slide around for a lil while? (until i can afford to go with a swap?)

If i decide to do a 5 speed swap, will i be able to use the same transmission on an SR in the future?

Will a stock (four lug) brake set last even one track day?
(if not, where is the cheapest place to get 5 lug hubs and 300 brakes? in az?

Is it wrong to think that i can go with a quality set of coils but get a cheap set of adjustable arms for the time being?
(coilover options... buddy club, tein, eibach, suggestions?)

im 6'3... i need shorter seats and suggestions on seat harnesses as well.

(if anyone reads this and has any used parts for possible options that fit any of ^^ those needs... lemme know :chuckle:)

Im sorry if anyone thinks im being a noob but ive made allot of mistakes when it came to properly modifying my cars, This time around i wanna get the car on the track and see if this is acctually going to be worth investing into... or just a pipe dream. THANK YOU

Wow that is a very clean S13 coupe! Its a shame you want to make that a drift car. If i were you i would try to save for a cheap s13 5spd, to learn and practice drifting on, before you spend bookoo money on this one to make it slide! Plus you should practice drifting on a car you wont feel guilty about, if you get a scratch on it, or a dent, or if you rip bumpers off, or slam it into a curb! :dblthumb: For your first question, YES any stock KA can drift like crazy 100% stock! If its 5spd., you cant really drift for s*** in an auto! Only you will need a welded differential, or a VLSD. And some minor suspension upgrades, and i would make sure rear brakes are good, and tighten ebrake cable. Its best to learn on a welded diff. so you are used to having both wheels locked! Although you have to be careful, especially when its raining!(when you are daily driving it) Because all the car will want to do is kick sidewayz! And you cant drive welded diff in the snow. And first/basic drifting suspension upgrades i would go with is like lowering springs/struts or coils., maybe front and rear strut bars, front inner and outer tie rods (stock ones seem to bend or break when sliding), and rear poly subframe collars, cause stock ones have to be worn by now. In my opinion, thats the safe suspension basics! And yes you can use a stock KA 5spd trans on a SR20, but it would be cheaper to just buy a sr motorset that comes with the transmission, plus the sr trans is more durable!4 Lug is fine for drifting, most people upgrade to 5 lug because of more wheel choices, that can fit with 300zx brake upgrade. (you dont need that yet) and yea get some coils, and cheap suspension arms if you want no prob. And idk about the seat thing... maybe you can ask your doctor for some pills that make you shorter! :gapteeth: :bigthumb:

Oh and if your looking to get coilovers, a good entry level coilover is like megan street coils, ksport, tein basic, etc.

ok, that car is WAY too clean to learn with because you will, eventually, hit something. Yes a stock s chassis will slide although not that well. I have taken my car to a few events with a basically bone stock KA and done well.

The KA trans CAN be used on an SR IF you change the bellhousing, also the SR trans is absolutely NO stronger or more durable than the KA 5 speed, they are internally exactly the same from my understanding, i dont understand where people get that idea. But if you are looking at swapping down the road then you're doing nothing but wasting money by trying to swap a manual before hand.

A four lug brake setup will do you fine to start with, just get some good pads and new rotors and dont get the heat in them up too high.

As for your suspension question, if your going to buy something why not just save and get quality the first time? I would never think about cutting corners on something as critical as suspension parts, brakes or tires, they are the link to the ground for the car, why chance anything with an inferior product. Look into Powered by Max, Stance, BC racing, Tein, Megan, or Fortune AQuto for something entry level in the coilover area.

As for the seating issue, if you are having headroom issues look into a quality seat with a sidemount option, side mount rails as well. If you do go the route of a harness please for the love of God, do some research on proper harness installation, and placement. All im gonna say is spinal compression is not a good thing.

^^^^^ both, a bad start and ditto on the seats and height.

Otherwise don't do it if your having to ask all these questions about drifting you just jumped on the bandwagon, your not ready for the he'll your Gonna go through building a drift car and replacing everything that breaks at the track.

Make it pretty and don't go destroy a perfect coupe. Drift sluts are called sluts for a reason

listen... when i say budget build.. i mean that Im not going to buy a phat bbk, $5k coilovers, and then do an ls swap. I want to get a solid SR built, and I want to use quality/affordable parts. I was expecting to hear that "budget builds" dont work... i also expect to hear that quality parts arnt affordable. What im asking is, HOW CAN I DO THIS RIGHT THE FIRST TIME WITHOUT HAVING TO WASTE MONEY. Some times you dont have to spend big bucks to get good performance. Theres been plenty of R and D for 240 parts, and plenty of companys that will make good parts for a fraction of the cost.
You dont know how ready i am... ive done plenty of car repairs on the side of the road just to help a buddy get home... the side of the track it no different.

I DO APPRECIATE ALL OF THE COMMENTS AND SUGGESTION> THANKS A TON GUYS YOUVE HELPED ALLOT>

Your best bet is to learn about the car first. after that and only after that can you learn about driving it and how it works when sliding.

I wish i wasnt so lazy or i would quote every time you sadi somthing stupid. ill just give you the # on your last post... Its 11....

You are a clown and have done nothing to contribute to this conversation. You seem to have more time on your hands than knowledge. All you've don't here is make exaggerated claims based on childish assumptions. If i sound like a four year old kid... its because thats how you perceive what your reading. I wrote that last response in the four minutes of free time i could squeeze out and you just spend thirty minutes flexing some internet muscle... Did you get an adrenaline rush when you wrote that? Listen... what i had to ask was already answered in the last three posts by helpful forum users that don't mind lending a fella enthusiast a hand... or a good word. Ya need to find a better way to spend your time.
