Hi,

I'm shopping for a new car. I tried a 2004 G35x, and I LOVED  that car. It has 156 000Km (97000 miles). I've never own a luxury car, and I would like to know how much do they cost to maintain and repair(not a the stealership)? I know parts are more expensive, but at which extend? How does it compare to subarus or hondas? Also, what is the real MPG on the highway (not heavy footed driving around 70 mph)? I drive nearly 300 miles every week on the highway? Do they have a good reliability? Is there any weakness I should be careful about while shopping?

Thank you very much,

Welcome!

Not much if well cared for.

More expensive!

Depends on how you drive

Yes!

There have been hundreds of thousands of vehicles damaged and or flooded from hurricane Sandy and other heavy rain storms around the US over the past few years. Many have had salvage titles washed by shipping to other states.
Worthwhile to spend a $100 or so to have the vehicle checked out at a dealer to run the VIN number to obtain a history of the vehicle. Check the brakes, belts, hoses and the repair history as well as the title history.
I traded in my previous 06 G35 with 171796 miles 2 years ago that still had the original clutch, starter, alternator and was very reliable.

You are attempting to purchase an almost 11 year old vehicle so be careful.

Good luck

So why look for trouble with an unknown?

I've owned vehicles for longer than 15 years but don't anymore. Technology is moving very rapidly and I want to keep up with it.

My needs changed. I drive more than I did when I purchased it. It doesn't have any luxury like A/C, power windows. It's not comfortable at all... I have a new job, and I would like to have an AWD vehicule because I have to drive long distances. I live in Canada, and we have quite harsh winters.

MPG is not good. Worst thing about Infiniti ownership imho. Check http://www.fueleconomy.gov/
However, a 04 sedan you can get away with using regular gas which is a plus.
Maint. parts are not that expensive. EZ to do maint. stuff yourself too.
There are Factory Service Manuals on this site that you can down load.
There are YOUTUBEs too.
We had a Canadian member that used to post vids of himself playing in his X in the deep snow!!! Looked fun!!!

I have an '04 sedan. Bought with ~124k on it. Put another 12k on it in 1 year with zero unexpected maintenance. About 22 mpg with premium... admittedly I have quite the lead foot. The regular maintenance is slightly more expensive than your typical toyota, etc. Very reasonable still for the car you get out of it. I was previously driving a 1995 Subaru Legacy with 230k miles on it - been with my family for 18 years. I had a very similar reason for looking at a G35. I wanted something sporty, specifically more agile and tight, and of course some bonus luxury features are always welcome. Haven't regretted it for even 1 second.

I made it through a Minnesota winter with a RWD G35 (might have spent a significant portion of that time driving sideways... but as long as you get where you need to go!). I'm sure the AWD will be a piece of cake.

Good luck with your decision.
