I just found out that all the needls on the gauge do not go up and go back down as I press start button to start engine. Is it computer problem? Is there anyway I can reset the program by myself?

Also I start hearing some noise when I shift gear (from underneath the leather that covers stick) I hear when I shift from D to P (sounds something like ripping vinyl tape)

Anybody has had a similar problem or has any idea?

I'm not sure about the ripping sound.

I'm also not sure what year of M you have, but the 06+ models should have a button to press, similar to the trip odometer reset, to the left of the tachometer. Press and hold this to turn on or off the illuminated rings around the gauges. With the rings illuminated, the needles will sweep through their ranges of motion when you start the car. With the rings off, the needles will not move. At least for me, I like having the rings off but really like the sweeping needles - which isn't possible. I wish the two features weren't linked this way, but it's better than not having any control over them at all I guess.
