So, I had a working ca18det ecu about three months ago, and no motor in a car to use it, so I sold it to pay a bill. I got one in trade when I ended up with a chassis for my ca18 to go into. Plugged everything together, it worked fine, and then after three days, it randomly dies, does nothing as if I had no power hooked up. I opened the case and immediately saw a burn. Turned out to be some shorted wires in my wiring harness. I removed the harness and totally redid it, and added length to certain wires etc to make it fir my car perfectly. I checked it all over and all wires ohmed out correctly.

I got it together again and obtained a chipped ecu from a member. When I got it, I opened the ecu to be sure it was chipped, it was supposedly ready to run the same setup as mine, and it was, but there was a component on the board, Diode I think, that appeared to have been bent off and broken from the board and then re-soldered back onto the broken off stumps. I asked the seller and he said it had been working fine. Now, I did absolutely nothing but open and view this board and take a pic of it. I am very well versed in working with electronics and I know I did not mess this ecu up.

I plugged it into the car and turned the key. The ecu came up with power and everything seemed to be cool, but after I checked over it, tried to start it and I got smoke from the ecu. Opened it up, and the piece that had been reattached was obviously about to fall off from heating up and melting solder.

I have been trying to just get the piece resoldered, but the pad on both sides is totally fubar. I was going to just see if it would work. It has been so long I would not want to ask for my money back for this ecu. I really need this car running so I can finish the exterior and sell one of my cars to pay bills. Will someone trade me a stock ca ecu or sell me one for a decent price? I have a good rb20 turbo I could trade and I also have a bunch of edis parts for standalones. I could also trade for electrical or tuning services. Please help!

I robbed an identically labeled diode from another scrap board I had and mananged to repair the board I think. I can't tell if both sides of the board had a trace or not. Definitely fixed one side though.

Now, I have found another problem, the f'n eprom has two broke off pins at one end that I am sure aren't helping me at all. I am going to keep at it til I think it is repaired and try it tomorrow. I have my turbo sold so if anybody has an ecu I will probably buy a spare one anyway.

I've got two extra ECU's lying around, but being that they came with the car, I have no clue if they are CA ecu's. As soon as my wires get here and this stupid thing starts, I'll test those other two ecu's out and if you still need one, I'd be more than happy to trade one or sell one.

Man, that would be awesome. I would socket one for you and send cash for the other if you want. Lemme know. I have heard nothing anywhere else so far. I got some pics of the damage and the repairs done so far. The rain here has stopped for a few hours and I have work outside to do til it pours again, but tonight I will dive into the chip box , repair the one I got with this and see about starting my car!

I am reasonably sure I fixed this board, as rough as it looks. I added wire to the legs of the component because the center one had to be epoxied into the hole and then routed over on each side to replace the bad trace and pad...We will see but I threw 12v+ and a ground on it and was able to get the led on and flashing codes at me in the house. My soldering is all okay, no shorts I can detect with my meter.

lol, seeing as how you're in rock hill, if my wires don't get here within the next week, I'll have you hit up Carl H and send you one, provided my car functions correctly haha

That would be awesome! I would have already seen if this worked but my house is being remodelled and I am doing the electrical for it, I am an electrician.
