Well, I spent at least 10 hours on the phone with AT&T Technical Support over the past 2 days getting this thing squared away.
Downloaded all drivers, but it still wouldn't install. The tech finally found a note that says the PCMCIA card is a 3v card, and some laptop PCMCIA ports are 5v. Which means the laptop would "blow" the card, and possibly burn up my port. I think this DID happen, because my laptop mysteriously "shut down" when I first tried to install the card.
They're gonna send another card Wednesday, just to SEE if that was the issue. If it is, then AT&T will be out 2 PC cards, and paying for a repair to my laptop (since they knew of this incompatibility) and I'll be shopping for a newer, more compatible notebook PC.
