So, I'm in an market for a new turbo

it will most likely be one of the following gt28r, gt28rs or gt2871r.

I plan to run relatively low boost on this turbo, 15psi at most due to stock internal.

It will be a t25 flange, bottom mounted but I'm not sure which turbo and which turbine housing to choose. I'm in the market for quick spool... which turbo and which turbine AR housing should I get?

I know the gt2871r has a selection between .63 .64 .82 .86 , not sure about others

I am currently running s14 t28 turbo, is everything will be a direct bolt on?

no smoke or nothing and yes it's a s14 t28...

this weekend I'll remove the bumper and inspect for cracks... I know my 90 degree bend on the cold side is made out of plastic... maybe my reckless rail road hoping has cracked it.

in any case, shoudl I get gt28rs or gt2871r? both is offered to me at 950 cash pick up.

the GT28's don't make enough power for my taste... :S meh...

Garrett GT35R Dual Ball Bearing Turbos Brand new! Supports up to 600 hp. Compressor: 68 mm, 56 Trim, 0.70 A/R. Dual ball bearings allow for higher efficiency and much faster spool up. .82 A/r turbine housing (will this thing need a new manifold or no?) sounds interesting, think it makes full boost at 3500rpm or 4000? or earlier??

GT28's don't have to make enough power for your taste... it's for his car. Besides, he says he can get a GT28 for a little over half of what a GT35 could go for.

My vote is for the GT2871R.

I did some search and some claim that a new hotpipe needs to be fabricated...? for the gt2871, can someone confirm this?

meh that was my lame attempt at hijacking the thread...

I did lots of research on diff GTxxx turbo's and I didn't see anything on needing a new hotpipe for the GT28. and it bolts to the same mani as the GT25 series so I guess you're set.

but you need a manifold that can take a T3 for the GT35 series...which manifold would that be? can it bolt to the stock manifold? or a greddy exhaust manifold? please tell me sum1?

the size of gt35 might not even fit in the stock location, the ones I've seen are all in top mount position

PantherRacer, just start your own thread if you have questions regarding the T3 turbos. Like Loveless said, all the T3s I've ever seen were top mounts. Maybe someone else would know different, but we're trying to figure out which of the T28s will be better for Loveless in this thread.

Loveless, I would go with a GT2871R with a .64 AR because of the spool time and what I think will be a pretty straight forward install. Besides, for less than $1000, you can't go wrong. I haven't heard of any hotpipe issues, but I guess it would depend entirely on your existing setup.

masticatingcow, below is what the guy said but I don't speak turbo and I have no idea what he's talking about

Quote »Ok, the unit I have is a SR20DET direct replacement unit. as pictures shown previous. Unit has bolted compressor hsg. flanged inlet and outlet same as original SR20DET turbo.(Hence its a direct bolt in replacement unit). Unit come with .64 internally wastegated T25 turbine hsg. Areo specs: 56 trim 71mm Gt35 compressor wheel, with 76 trim 53.85mm GT turbine wheel.[/quote]

I also did some research on garret's website.. turns out that ignoring the turbine housing and a/r option... there are still 3 different gt2871....

I compiled all the data I found on garret's website and put the into 1 image

I think the seller is talking about the 3rd one... is this the one you're recommanding as well, masticatingcow?

I think so. I'm pretty sure the turbine side is part number 430609-230, and his compressor is either part number 756021-1 or 756021-2. Either way, I think it's a good deal. I would have recommended the first setup (53.8mm 76 trim turbine, 71mm 52 trim compressor) but I like the turbine he has in his unit. With the larger compressor, though, it'll be just a tad more laggy. I don't know what kind of power you're aiming for, though. So like I said, it seems to me like a solid deal, and since he's saying the compressor is flanged for T25 and you're running an SR T28 currently, I think your existing hotpipe should bolt right up.

But then again, it's late and I could be making no sense. LOL. I'll double check tomorrow morning with a clearer head. Perhaps in the meantime someone else could verify?
