i have a 2002 nissan pathfinder 4x4 se with 125,000 miles .
i need to replace my transmission filter [ got a beck/arney] and fluid.
when i went to autozone i saw atf+4 [ dont know what it is... ] dexron and Mercon .
i have checked the search feature and the recomendations are either nissan matic D or atf. does atf+4 = atf ?
what fluid am i supposed to use?

also... which radiator transmission coolant line am i supposed to disconnect while flushing out the old fluid? driver or passenger side? is there a tool i can buy to completely flush out the old transmission fluid [ i read a post where someone used a tool to drain out the tourque converter] ?

+4 Is for chrysler

If your doing a filter change you need to drop the pan. if your doing a flush, its disconnect either hose, start the truck and as it pours out you pour in new fluid. shut the truck off when you have half litre left, reconnect the hose and top up the fluid.

Search for a better how to

Use a fluid that claims to meet Nissan Matic D specifications.

Cooler line exchange procedure is in this thread under Transmission & driveline.

I run Castrol Import Multi-Vehicle in my Pathfinder and it shifts fine. If you order anything from AAP, be sure to order online and use discount codes then pick-up in store to save a bunch.

You can use any Dexron 3 fluid. I've been running generic fluid from canadian tire for over a year without issue.

I too seemed to be confused by all the ATF or should I say lack of ATF at the stores.. Fifty types of motor oil yet maybe three types of ATF.

I actually did read compatible to Nissan-D on a couple of bottles (even ones that did not indicate Dex/Merc)

The Valvoline Max Life I just put in is Dex/Merc and lists Nissan/Infinity Matic-D as being compatible to it.

At 6.29 a quart it was a splurge..

But $20 extra over generic for full flush = peace of mind to me that if it blows up I tried my best..
