I have tried a few of the old tricks like wraping insulation around the metal trunck rods and padding the seal for a tighter fit but I still have the big rattle when the bass is turned up on the 12's in my trunk.

I have a coupe.

you have a sedan if you have trunk rods. coupe is defined as a 2-door vehicle. sedan is a 4-door.

Are you sure it's the rods rattling? I'd judt suggest what you are trying already, insulation. Maybe try some Dynamat inside the trunk area also.

OMG why did I say coupe? You know the only thing I have not tried is the dynomat. I was just thinking that I should take out the rear seat and stick my head in there to listen and pinpoint where it is really coming from. I cannot tell on the outside with the trunk closed.

It is far from terrible I must say. Prior vehicles were all worse. It is kind of surprising.

I used up (18) sheets of 18in x 32in to eliminate the rattles in my girls car. i have 4 layers deep in most of the trucklid, 2 layers on all of the side of the trunk. And i also have 2 layers on the floor, an i did 3 layers on the rear deck lid top and bottom. The worst rattles came from the seatbelt slack rollers. the boxes that house those for looks rattle an awful lot, the carpeted cover for the deck lid is definately a source also it bounces with bass notes. try close celled foam to stop all that. Works good an is cheap. but i promise if you have a serious system it wont go away. It will just help a little.

Ahh screw it. By the time I insulate it you won't hear anything anymore. Might as well spray foam the whole trunk!
