Hi I'm looking at a 93 Q and I'd like to run the vin thru the dealer......but the closest dealer is 120 miles away. :( What should I do.

Thanks,

Andy

We have a couple dealer reps here, but they dont live on the boards the way your moderators do.Execute a members seach (members button on top) for jtsensky. He works at a dealer and should be able to hook you up.

Thanks Fred. :) Do you know if the vin # will tell the build date? Trying to nail down whether or not guides need to be done.

Thanks,

Andy

Yes it will tell the build date.We had a VIN number cut-off posted, after which the new style guides were supposed to be in the car.

But we have found old style guide in cars after the supposed cut-off.The VIN is buried somewhere in our old homesite searchable articles section (link in my sig).It does seem clear, that the likelyhood of having the old style guides in the car goes way down after that VIN/production date.

Basically, the rule of thumb is if it is 1993 or before, you better inspect. If it is 1994 or after, you have the new guides.

There is an urban legend about one 1994 with the old guides, but I never saw it documented. Nor was the cut-off date absolute.

I believe that early 94s should be checked because I remember reading that the factory used the remaining guides for some of the 94s until they ran out. I may be thinking of the 93 but I think I'd inspect an early 94 just to be safe.

Never have read a source documenting it, so until I do, I continue to believe it is an Infiniti myth.

Maxnix:What he is referrring to is teh info TJ, then of Infinit of Scottsdale posted back on the old yahoo baords 3 years ago.I asked TJ if that was a typo or something but he said was certain. This was the only known case.At the time it caused quite a bit consternation on members parts and has made it's way into a couple of write -ups done by members including some of my own.Since then this case has not re-occured.I am currently driving a 94 and am unconcerned about teh guides. It is howevr pretty clear that old guides were used until exhausted on teh 93's as even after the cutoff date when the new part number was out, many 93's got assembled with teh old style guides even after the cut-off.

I vaguely remember the TJ post, but I never knew it was an actual documented event. Maybe we can find TJ at that Hyundai dealer in Little Rock and have him refresh us.

I can see establishing and absolute safe date or serial number sequence for 1993 is impossible if Nissan was installing engines with a running change, but the engines did not carry their own serial numbers, or do they?

FWIW: I called my dealer today and had them fax me a copy of my service history. I was QUITE suprised to see that they provided ALL THE HISTORY back to the in service date on my 1990 Q45. I had been told before that they purged all the old records, but that doesn't appear to be correct.

So if you can't get your local dealer to fax you a copy, call Infiniti Client Affairs and request that they FAX you a copy, and don't take the "it's too old" excuse from them.
