on my '96 J30.
Has anyone done this recently?
Any ideas on where I can obtain the parts without taking out a 2nd mortgage on the house? :-)

Yoda!

I am very well. Busy as one-armed paper hanger after drinking 5 cups of coffee.

You know, all of those posts I've been posting about the various projects I am doing - or trying to do - are still awaiting my work. The clock spring is sitting in the back seat as is a fan belt and who know what all else I have to do to the car. Now, I am trying to get the car back on the road after sitting all winter. I found that the exhaust has rotted away as has a tube for the power steering.

Back to the exhaust issue: I have a leak right at the driver's side Cat (just after it, I think). The rest of the exhaust looks sketchy but I want to replace it all. Problem is, So far no one I've contacted has anything but the cat for the car. I also won't go to the dealer. I wonder if I can just go to a muffler shop to get this.

I'll try not to be a stranger here this spring and summer. :-)

I would think any GOOD muffler place could route new pipes from the manifold back.
They would use the old pipes as a template.
Might cost a chunk though !!

Why the entire thing? I see manifold back exhausts on J30's all the time in Cali at the junkyard, minus the cats. Check the junkyards around you.

I have no idea how bad they rot elsewhere in the country but in Fl the junkyard is full of perfect systems minus the converters.

If not the system can be hand twisted @ any muffler house out of 2 inch tube, go toward the quiet side on the mufflers or expect a resonating drone.

Hi all!

Thank you for the replies.

Up in Maine there are almost NO J30s available and if so, would probably be quite bad off due to the salt we put on the roads in winter. However, I am looking to rent a place in FL during the winter and am also planning to head down during June to find that place (we're searching from somewhere well north of Miami up through to St. Augustine) and can look for one there. Otherwise, like you all said, I can have it made.

I am a hour north of Miami, if you are in town I can pre-scout the local pick and pull yards ;)

same as J30tChumpCar, there are a lot of exhaust systems here at the Pull a Parts in GA. I could grab one if you want it and meet me as you pass through the Atlanta area. just throw me the cost from the junkyard. it would be pretty expensive to ship it from GA to ME. you would probably be better off getting some new cats welded in as well. those get cut out. :-/ let us know what you want to do.
