Hello once again, everyone.

My 1990 240sx (a current drivable project car) is in need of new rear struts. I've decided to undertake this task myself. As I understand, it's fairly easy (spring compressor aside) just time consuming.

Can anyone offer me any tips on things to be aware of so I do it right the first time?

Thanks all you wonderful people you!

If you're reusing your springs, the only hard part is the spring compression part. Otherwise, it's 3 bolts and the strut comes off.

one of my rears is blown but i'm waiting until i can afford coilovers. so yes, for now my car is totally suck. just keep in mind your goals for the car, since it's a project, and don't bother buying a part until you can afford and install the right part.

Mark how the top hat is in relation to the bottom bolt hole. I twisted mine just a little and it made it kind of a pita to reinstall. Other than that, a good set of spring compressors and that is it.

... & a trip to the alignment shop afterwards...

i'd save up to do all 4 corners, then just have it aligned once... or do that Firestone unlimited alignment packages...

actually, i've always done my own alignments. kind of a shadetree method when people see me do it, but i get more accurate toe settings than most laser machines i've had my car on, and i can get other things more accurate as well. i can pretty much get +/- 0.02* on camber and toe. i haven't messed with caster at all yet.

Just got done putting the new struts in. Actually kind of fun! It really gives a sense of pride and accomplishment knowing it's your own handy work that's going into keeping your car running.

Thanks to all who offered tips and "don't forgets." Hopefully, I'll have some pictures up at some point. Not to mention more questions as there is still quite a bit to do.

Thanks again all!

I'm always game for picking up a few new tricks. How do you go about it? Or do you already have some posts up describing that?
