Hey folks,

My 2002 Pathfinder has a hole the size of my thumb in the gas tank neck filler tube, so I have to replace it.
The hole is near the top, so lots of gas pours out when I'm filling the tank.
BTW, the 2002-4's are not covered under the recall (2001's and earlier only).
The dealer price is over $100.00, so I went to the junk yard yesterday and took a filler tube from a wrecker that I think is a 2000 model.
I checked the manu date on the wrecker and it said March 2000. It had the 3.3 engine in it. Paid 10 bucks for it.
The tube looked almost brand new. Looks like it may have been replaced under the recall at some point. It came out very easily.
Here's my question: will it fit in my 2002?
My current (2002) gas cap didn't fit in the wrecker unit, so there is definitely a difference.
I bought a new gas cap at an auto parts store ($10). Hopefully that's the only difference.
I don't want to start wrestling with my old one before being sure the "new" one will fit.
Anyone tried this swap out at all, or has any ideas?
If not, I'll just start removing the old one and see what happens.
Thanks.

Well, in case anyone is reading this thread and has the same problem, here is the answer re: 2000 vs. 2002 neck filler tubes.
Started the swap today, and discovered that they are not the same.
The one I took from the wrecker (model year 2000) won't fit in my 2002 Pathy.
The gas filler tube is the same, but the vent tubes/lines are different and not compatible. Bummer.
No choice now but to go to the dealership and buy a new one. Sucks. :crybaby

Last update for those still interested.
Priced out a new gas filler assembly for my 2002 Pathy (@ dealership), and it's over $210.00+tax, CND. No way. Didn't buy it.
Going to go the plumbers route and wrap the pipe with a rubber sleeve, and a clamp on each side.
Next time I'm in the U.S., I'll check with a Nissan dealership for a U.S. price.
Cheers.

If I'm looking at the right thing, it is on Courtesy Parts for about $100 to $104, depending on build date.

Is this something the mostly (only?) is a problem in rust-prone areas?

The filler tube has a plastic coating on it that's supposed to prevent corrosion.
The problems come when there is a small tear or rip in the coating.
Water gets through and under the split in the coating, and rusts the tube out.
That's what happened to mine.
The recall is for 2001 and earlier: The plastic coating may have been applied incorrectly at the bottom of the tube, and water can get in and rust out the tube.
I guess when they re-designed the filler tube for 2002, the problem got fixed, and no more recall.

I'll wait until I go to the U.S. and buy one there.
I could order one from Courtesy Parts, but the cross border shipping cost is ridiculous.
