ok guys i installed my HS header last weekned, now there is a leak coming from either the egr hookup or where the header connects to the head (the cylinder 4 connection) closest to the fire wall. These 2 spots are only about 3-4 inches apart so i cant pin point exactly where its at. So anyone had this problem? anyone know any techniques for me to pinpoint the leak??

thanksvic

When the car is cold, put your hand over the pipe where you think it is leaking and have someone start the car. If that is the leak you will be able to feel hot air blowing out.

sounds like you already pin pointed the leak but if you have any doubt a stethascope works great, thats what they use at muffler shops

i think i i know what the problem is, the manifold bolts have a washer then the nut, where the leak is ocming from the bolt i only have the nut on w/ no washer. So i belive thats the problem. I can get the washer on i just was to lazy to tug at the header to slide it in. So if you guys think thats the problrm let me know.

sorry about the spelling

The bolts are not designed to seal anything. If there is a leak through the bolt holes it is because the manifold is warped or the gasket is blown(providing the manifold isn't cracked)

no, i know the washer isnt there to prevent a leak through the whole, but im thinking since its wider than the nut it will spread the pressure out on the manifold and provide a btter seal, im sure it serves some sort of purpose than to just be there. Besides i think its more than just a coinsedence that where im missing the washer there is a leak.
