i was doing research on aftermarket exhausts for my car and i remember someone mentioning that the stock s13 exhaust was a single tip exhaust? i have a 1989 hatch with a dual tip and some other things strike me as odd. i was led to believe by the previous owner that this car was fully stock. on the stock exhaust system, is the exhaust on the s13 welded to the cat and header or is everything bolted by flanges? any help would be appreciated because i have no clue to how the stock system looks like. i have no other s13 stock system to compare to so some help would be appreciated.. here are pics of the muffler/tips and the piping to the cat...

if im thinking correctly, this would give me problems using a bolt on aftermarket exhaust correct?

that looks like a stock muffler, but that piping looks awful big, and none of those parts came welded from the factory, theyre just bolted with gaskets and such.

maybe the previous owner got the exhaust re-done at a muffler shop and they just welded everything together.

It might give you some difficulty in buying aftermarket exhaust, unlees of course you bought everything at once, header, cat, catback.

p.s - use the azenis man!, they look too new!

hehe...just got those a couple months ago but i havent been driving around because of a couple of repairs i had to do at a body shop after an accident.. i plan on working them this summer when i have lots of time to drive

oh and yea the piping did strike me to be larger than i would think stock would be. i was also thinking about replacing everything at once too.. hotshot header, catco cat, and some aftermarket exhaust. Heh..kinna struck me funny because i just noticed this today.. i was wondering why my 240 seemed louder that a couple other stock 240s around here. anyway thanx for the help, i will probably go custom.. but the lack of flanges worry me because i was really hoping to be able to unbolt and bolt my exhaust system just in case any problems arise

well then yeah, if you have no flanges, you kindof have to buy everything at once, just save up, if you can find all of your pieces from the same place, you could even save on shipping. and youll see a big improvement all at once.
