This is such a drag. Our house was broken into and among other things the thieves took a set of keys. The set had the key fob to our 96 Q and the door/ignition key. We do not have a garage and need to find a quick solution to this crappy situation.

Any help would be great

Call Joe with the VIN.

Remotes with correct FCC number off eBay.

I think the real issue is having a key to the car in the hands of a thief. I think we need to have a new key configuration made. Can this be done?

I would think so... might try to get your homeowner's insurance to pay for a re-key. A good locksmith should be able to change a few wafers for a deeper cut (like pins in a normal lock) and then cut a deeper notch in your key. You'll have to find a good one that's willing to experiment with it.

One locksmith in town says that the Q wafer-style locks can't be serviced. Another one rekeyed one of my door locks the next day.

Your other option would be to buy a whole new set of locks and replace them all. Expensive but a good solution.

Is there a way to reprogram the car or the fob? Switch frequency or somoething. The thief has one and can get into the car whenever he wants.

When you reassociate a new remote fob, after ldisconnecting the power for a while, then you can reassociate the remotes you have.

You cannot rekey without changing all lock cylinders, an expensive proposition.

If you have the key number,

McLock Locksmith(864) 934-3411 or (864) 231-9671E-mail: [email protected]

can get you a brass one quickly.

I would just look and buy a key set from someone who has a complete lock set...

In trying to reassociate the fobs, will diconnecting power help with the problem of our stolen fob? My goal is to make the stolen fob unusuable to the person that stole it.

No battery, no stealy.

However if the battery is hooked up and he has a key, he can open the door and start the association procedure.

I don't want to have to deal with the battery everyday. I just want to get new fobs or reprogram the one we have, so that the stolen one will not work. How can I make the stolen one not work on our car and keep the one we still have? Not sure reassociation will fix this.

Thanks for yall's help!

Read my post again. You cannot without changing the lock cylinders. If he can enter the car and knows how to reassociate the remote fob, you are not secure.

Actually, he doesn't even need to reassociate. He can just drive the car away.
