hi i am new in this, I got a infiniti 2001 q45t and i want to get the key programed can i do it myself or i have to go to the dealer ???

Ignition key? or key fob?

The key fob you can program yourself, the ignition key's transponder chip requires a programming device and a code.

I need to have a spare programmed as well, but have not actually had it done yet. Maybe someone who has can provide more detail.

the ignition key, i got it cut all ready i can start the car but it only stay running for 5 seconds and the it stop my friend told me that i need to get it programed and i think i could do it my self

Also, did you get it cut by a professional locksmith? I can't imagine that a hardware shop would have the right cassette to cut the key.

Hi There:

I recently had this done by the local Infiniti dealership. I had the original master key, a replacement master key and a valet (spare) key. They plug in a special device to your car and bascially clear out all of your original key chip programs and then reprogram all the keys you need. The dealer only charged me $85 for three keys.

Good luck. As far as I know, you have to have this done at the dealership.

Hi there:

Just to clarify and not be misleading, when I said I got all three keys done at the dealer I did not mean I purchased keys from the dealer for $85.00. I bought the keys separately from that dealer and they programmed all three for $85.00.
