The MXM4's are an amazingly well-made and dependable tire. They are in the "Grand Touring' category of tires, that provide the comfort and handling of the reg touring tires plus a notch towards 'sport' handling. That brings up a great point:
You need to decide what 'category' of tires you want and that is based on your individual driving conditions and your individal driving style. Do your drive in snow? Do you drive very spirited? Do you drive on sharp, winding roads? Do you tow anything?, etc Then you must decide which is #1 out of the following 3 cateories for your tires: handling, tread wear, or comfort (quiet ride, smooth over roadways). You have to find the tire that is best in your #1 category - that's where you start to clear the field. My rating went like this: #1-handling, #2-quiet ride, and #3- tread wear
My Ventus S1noble2's are "Ultra high performance A/S" which is a higher class than the MXM4s. Does that make them better? NO - just different. It's a class of tires that have different characteristics than a touring style tire. They are more sport tuned and have sharper handling and a verty quiet ride, but not as good rolling resistance as the Grand Touring ties. Mine have better dry and wet handling than the MXM4's, Continentals, and Pirelli but the S1noble2's do NOT perfrom as well as the MXM4's in snow and will NOT last as long as the MXM4's for wear. I drive 'spirited' pretty often so I needed a tire that has good lateral strength and extra grip in turns. I'm in South Florida so it will never snow here. Winter driving was not a concern for my tire choice. The S1noble2's are excellent in wet AND dry driving and braking, and out-performed Bridgestones, Goodyear, Continentals, and Pirelli in the areas I was concerned with. In fact the only brand that out-performed mine were, of course, Michelins, but the ultra high performace A/S Michelins have a much higher road noise level than my S1noble2's with barely higher ratings the other categories that matter to me. Although I have had Michelins on every car I've ever owned, The S1noble2's met my #1,#2 and #3 preferences in the exact order I ranked them. That is how I ended up buying them.
So far, I'm happy having switched from Michelin Pilot Super Sports to these S1noble2's. Mind you, they are NOT equal to Michelins, but they came bloody close in tests and have a quiter ride. The real test, for me, is what happens as the tread wears. Anyone who has owned Michelins will tell you they perform at or 'near new' even with low tread levels!. If my Ventus handling deteriorates with significant wear, I will happily pay a little more to go back to the Michein Pilot Sport A/S 3's which replaced my old Piot Super Sports.
