I have a 91 Infinti with 110,000 miles. Based on what I've read in the forums, it is time for a timing chain replacement. One of the Boston Infiniti dealers quoted $3,000+.

I've seen the threads recommending T3 in Atlanta and parts from Infiniti Scottsdale.

Can anyone recommend an independent dealer/mechanic within 75 miles of Boston?

Owen:

It's not the timing chain, but the timing chain <guides> that need replacing.

For all the info you need, go to our home page to "search articles" (those are some threads from this club's old board that we saved)Type in the "look for" window the word "guides", and in the "look in" window type in, look in "infiniti articles".It will bring up several threads, which are mostly Q&A on this exact subject.

Read the one titled "90-93 Q 45 guides" ( or very close to this title).

It's our most comprehensive thread on this subject.

Then it will be easier (and LOTS cheaper) to solicit estimates for the work you actually need.

Good Luck and keep us posted,

Fred...:)

timowen,

Welcome to club! My independent mechanic here in Lowell has done a couple chain guide replacements. He's a lil asian guy that owns a shop right off of Route 3 here in Lowell, probably a 15-20 min drive from Boston. I'll be over at his shop again tomorrow to get my tension rods done and I'll make sure to ask him for a $ quote. How's that sound?

Palmerwmd: thanks for the reply. Sorry I was not more specific about the guides. I had searched the forums prior to posting. The timing chain guide postings were extremely helpful and detailed -- right down to the parts required. This will be very helpful for getting an accurate quote.

Sopdadope: Thanks! Looking forward to hearing from you regarding your Lowell mechanic. Lowell is only 20 minutes from home. If more convenient, you can email me at [email protected].

I'm on my way to his shop right now. It won't be a $3k job but for sure $1k-1.5K for certain. I suggest that, you take a good look at your motor to see if there's anything that needs replacing such as injectors, plugs, hoses, resealing valves, etc. so you can kill multiple birds with one stone. It may be a big hit on your wallet, but believe me you're doing yourself and your car a big favor in the long-run.

I had a valve gasket leak last year and replaced just about everything on the engine including new ignition coils and the igniters on either side of the engine. It made a HUGE difference, the engine feels like brand new, even at 190k. I'll post the cost here later tonight.

I'm also looking for someone to do a chain guide job. I live in southern NH, not too far from MA.
