I'm having some car problems. At first it was just that sometimes when i go from driving to idol clouds of smoke would come out of my exaust this only happens sometimes. But now it has developed another problem. when i press down the throttle it doesn't respond it feels as if i actually slow down a little and the car stutters for about 3-5 seconds before it finally responds a begins to accelerate this also doesn't happen everytime.

I don't know if their is a connection between the two problems but i plan to work on them this weekend and i wanted some suggestions on what I should check. I don't know if a bad O2 sensor could have this effect but i plan on changing it anyway since i haven't since i got the car.

Anyway any opinions or suggestions would be appreciated.

could also be intake leak or such, car will bog when you open the throttle as its blowing extra air out that its not using..

reminds me of a turbo problem my bother had. when decelerating or sitting at a stop light, it was easy to notice blue smoke coming forward from the back of the car, but it never really smoked while driiving for a long time. then it developed into the car not boosting at times, but then boosting perfectly fine at others. for him, it was a bad turbo. different movements would cause the shaft to relocate it self and drag, causing it not to spool and thus not create boost. when the shaft would move, i suppose it opened a spot in the turbo seals for oil to leak thru, creating the smoke at deceleration and/or idle.

but first things first, did you check for any codes in the ecu?

The auto parts store told me that they only have a universal O2 sensor for the 1988 1.8L pulsar. However this unerversal one has only one wire while my old one has three does this mean that this O2 sensor can't work?

Also i forgot to mention that at idol their is a strong sent of gas. so a bad O2 sensor can't cause these problems?

Your plugs are starting to foul because your O2 sensor is done. You need a new O2 sensor or you will be rinsing down your cylinder walls with raw fuel which is not a good thing.

So will a universal O2 sensor work even though it has 1 instead of 3 wires?

The line is pointed out with a red arrow.I belive this line has something to do with the air conditioner. My question is what flows through this line.

Also there is a line on the side of this line exactly like this except it has a larger diameter. Its not in the picture but i opened it and a burst of a pressure and oily liquid came out.

I need to know what that was i released and what i'm supposed to buy to replace this and how much of it i need?

I now know that the line in the picture has R12 refrigerant going throught it. But its the larger line on the side of this line that i opened up.I wanted to know if that was just compressor oil i let out or if was a combination of compressor oil and refrigerant?

It would be both. If you want to go cheap, go to Advanced, Auto Zone, Checker or some place like that and pick up a 134-a retrofit kit. Just follow the instructions and fill 'er up. They say you should have it evacuated and replace some other stuff to do the conversion, but I've always done it that way and never had a problem. Or you could take it somewhere and pay about $200 to fill it up with r-12
