So I have these Pioneer TS-A1767 Speakers 6.5” 3 way, grate speakers, but they’re are getting old and tired, I was fine tuning my system, today, and they are not as crisp as I would like them to be…need a new better pair…need suggestions, currently I’m leaning towards some infinity KAPPA63.5I

Type: Must be 6.5” non components I don’t like the look or the sound of them. Unless there are some really good once.

Power: I have around 100rms per speaker.

Price:Cost isn’t an issue. I’m an audio junky and will sell my soul for of pair flagship speakers…LOL…but don’t want to overpay.

Specifics: I’m running my speakers on high-pass, so their bass response is not important, I want clear crisp mid to high range.

yep, first they sound really annoying away form the main speakers my friend has these alpine type-R so I know, and they look weird, an eye sore, don’t like that.

boston pro 6.5 inch components...that's what i have. they are components but they have face mounts for the tweeters. the woofers perform better than any coaxial, and they sound great. a little bright so get a crossover and fine tune them and they sound wonderful. i have some. i love em. they retail for $450 a pair if you want the manufacturers warranty and all, but can be had cheaper on ebay. i checked and they go for around $320 - $350 a pair on ebay. anyway i've heard really good things about others as well like focals, but you dont want components and i dont know if you can face mount focals or not. personally i haven't had any experience with them. by the way do you understand what you are saying when you say price is not an issue? there are boston's that sell for $1000 a pair, there are mb quarts that sell for $1600 a pair, there are focals that sell for $1000 a pair (all retail of course)... Anyway, i'm NOT saying this in a "you're a dumbass" type of tone, but personally i just dont think you have had enough experience with quality components yet. you would obviously choose them over a crappy coaxial any day if you had. but also just about any components can be made to be much less of an eye sore than a coaxial... look at what ayjay is doing... his setup is pretty sweet if you ask me, and all he's doing is investing a little time in it and making custom stuff that looks freaking 10000000 times better than coaxials.

oh but anyway if you really are gung ho about getting coaxials all of the brands i listed above (boston acoustics, focal, mb quart, and many others) make those also... they are of course their lower end lines of speakers...

My friend, it is time to introduce you to Morel. I dont have a bunch of time right now to tell you why, but I will. here is their website... http://www.morel.co.il/ not to be confused with the USA Morel. They are not the real deal. My roommate just got a sponsorship from them and I can say that their components are in the top 2 sets that I have ever heard. check them out! I'll get back to ya.

they look nice... sort of remnant of mb quart Q's... what are the other speakers in your "top two?" are these finess speakers or will they take abuse, or a combination of the two?

They need power and they can get really loud. If you match them up with other high end equipment, then they will do thy bidding. The other set that I heard was a component system that was put together from home equipment. My buddy put a pair of Thiel tweeters (huge rear mount) with a B&W (bowers and wilkins) kevlar midrange in a specially designed resin/fiberglass enclosure. He used Precision Power active crossovers on the original Soundstream Renior class A amplifier (circa 1997). It sounded so sick. The Morels have that kind of sound. My next setup will have Morels eventually.

ohhhhhhhh B&W... i can only imagine..... i know his B&W were probably not these but anyway:nautalis = $20000 per speaker set.... $40000 for a pair. wow.have you ever heard those before?i've heard mb quarts just dont get very loud, or if they do they are easily destroyed, so that's why i was comparing them... but i've never owned mb quart before. this is all hearsay i guess which i dont like to go on, but unfortunately i dont have the money to go out and buy a zillion different setups, plus i doubt i will ever spend more than i did for my bostons again... well for my car anyway.

My reference speakers at my place are B&W CDM1 NT (Nautilus Technology) speakers. I sold B&W for almost 3 years at my old shop. I have heard the Nautilus Signature 801 set (20k per pair) but I have not heard the "Nautilus". There are no dealers that sell them in their shop except for one out on the east coast. You fly out there to audition them and if you buy them B&W will pay you back for the cost of your trip.

Boston Z componenets you can mount the tweet over the woofer so its similar to a 2way they'll only run you 995 at audio express:)Anything Cdt, Focal, Morel, next step down would be Infinity, Alpine, Boston, maybe road gear.. cough cough :)

Oh i almost forgot Rainbow. Anybody get an issue of Car audio and eletronics i think it was november 2003 issue where they did the top 4 component set comparison. It was Alpines top of the line (around 2500 for the set i belive) Morel, Rainbow and one other brand cant forget the name. I saw them all and my heart skipped a beat

yo MECP, could they have been AVI components? they are made near by, just outside vancouver, and they are amazing. a local car audio shop that sells high end car audio including focal, dynaudio and boston to name a few, says that the AVI BSM components are the best 2 way component set they sell. retail for around $1400 CDN which isn't all that bad and apparently midbass and midrange is phenomenal, close to the output of a 3 way component system... here's a link & here's a pic:

there is also a huge component set review from a Japanese Car Audio mag... i couldn't read ****, but the little bar graphs mean something :pface check it out (http://www.avisound.com/reviews/car_av_cover.htm ), you'll be surprised how the avi's do compared to some other high end speakers like bostons and focals

Man, Sorry we closed out all remaining Boston equipment including the Z6's. They are very nice for the price range. I would put my alpine type X' s against them in a sound off and would surely win though. My previous system used the Daimond hex 6"component speakers. I was petty satisfied with the diamond as well, for reference speakers I use either Sonus Faber or Vienna acoustics homes speakers. See http://www.sumikoaudio.net
