OKay guys, I know it's been forever since I was active on this board but hopefully I'll be around more now.

Anyway, my girlfriend and I were going to Jackson the other day and we happend to pass by a dark green Datsun Z that looked to be in perfect shape. Well I went back 2 days later and was astonished. The car is immaculate with a list of engine repairs and vehicle restorations a foot long. Apparently their son just turned 16 and they cannot afford the insurance on 5 vehicles and her husband has another one sitting out back that he'd been using to part out, but is now going to restore. It's a 76 datsun 260z, but it doesn't have the 76 wheels on it. I have some pics of it that I'll be posting a little later. I need some suggestions on the 260z and such, there's not really a whole lot in the Z cars section so I thought I'd post it here and maybe break up the political squabbling that's been going on over the impending military conflict, so voice you're opinions please! And does anyone know what the exact vehicle specs for the 260z is??

Oh, and they're asking $2,800.

Only thing I could find. I'm sure there's some Z freaks hanging around NICO somewhere with all the info.http://datsunzclub.com/specifications.html

are you sure it's a '76 260Z? They only made 260z's in 1974

1970-1973 240Z 2.4L Carb1974 **** 260Z 2.6L Carb1975-1979 280Z 2.8L Fuel Inj1980-1984 280ZX 2.8L Fuel Inj

260Z is a 2.6L inline 6, carburated, with the Flat top carbs. Most people change out the carbs with the pre 72 carbs (domed).

Wow, those specs at http://datsunzclub.com/specifications.html for the 260Z are off.

the HP is 162hp, it says it right on the engine plate (trust me, I had one)

Hmm, maybe the wife was confused *shrug* I'll find out.

flogeroller, how would it stack up to a 91 240? as far as acceleration/breaking/cornering? And is that price a good price??

Thanks for the site Mayhem :D

Accelleration-good, breaking, cornering probably not good (unless they are upgraded) That asking price seems kinda high, but I haven't seen it.

I miss my Z a lot, but I had many problems with it. I'd stick to my 240sx. In the future I plan on building a race 240Z which will be stripped down and SR20DET installed.

For a wealth of info, go here:

http://www.hybridz.org/phpBB2/index.php

http://zcar.com/

If you have your heart set on the car, try to talk down the price and drive it around. Check for leaks of course, and when driving around, sniff to see if you smell fumes. If you do, close the windows, blast the air/heater and it should go away. This means the rear hatch weather stipping needs to be replaced.

good luck, lemme know if you have any more Q's

I would be more interested in completely restoring a car of that age rather than messing with moding and all that. The car is a classic and is beautiful as is.

Go to http://www.zcar.com or http://www.240Z.org to start your research. You need much more specific info on the car. 74 260Z or a 76 280Z? Very different drive trains.

If you have specific questions ask them in the Datsun Zcar section.

In stock conditions, the two cars are very comparable in acceleration. The SX has a more modern suspension and brakes.

well I'll be posting a couple pics of it later on this evening and tomorrow I'm gonna go test drive it and get some shots of the engine. All the weather stripping appears to be new, tires are new, the entire interior is new, and the exhaust appears to be new and rather large looking for a stock exhaust. I'll have more details tomorrow and all, thanks for your help you guys and check back tonight for some pics of it. :)

I thought I recognized the white fender on the coupe in your sig. You were at the SoCal240SX Meet at Shine Street right?

I wonder how different the 2.6 block is from the Rb series. Perhaps you could bolt on a RB head combo. Well its somthing I would do to a 240, not a restored 260.

Probably really different, they dont look similar at all, plus they are about a 25years apart. When I had my 260Z i was looking into swapping in an RB25/26, but too much damn work. For now, I am looking for pre 73 240Z, as they are SMOG exempt here in Cali.

Buy it.

The RB head probably won't fit...the Z's use an L series engine.
