Hello,

The rear quarter panel on the driver side of my rogue was hit in the parking lot. And it was a hit and run. Since my collision insurance is high deductible, I did not bother with insurance claim. I am contemplating to DIY the dent repair. I don't need to restore it to perfect condition. As far as I can pop up the dent, the mission is accomplished.

I have attached a pic of the dent. I think I can remove the bumper, then pop up the dent. What tools do you suggest to pop up the dent without damaging the paint? Or if you have better approach, please let me know. Thanks.Image

WELCOME TO THE FORUM! THIS IS EASY MATE!

dent repair:
1. OPEN YOUR TRUNK
2. REMOVE THE LEFT/DRIVER SIDE INTERIOR TRUNK PANEL
3. USE A HEAT GUN TO HEAT THE METAL UP. (not to hot now!)
4. PUSH OUT THE METAL YOU SEE THATS BEND INWARD
5. DRINK A BEER.
6. REINSTALL EVERYTHING.

bumper repair:
PUT ON A COTTON GLOVE
crawl under the car,
have someone stand and watch the affected area to make sure its not melting.
apply a heat gun to the dented in area.
warm it up.
with your glove on, so you dont burn your hand, gently start pushing on the dent.

I know you said you want to DIY but have you at least asked a dent removal guy what they would charge? You can at least gauge if it's worth it for you to do it or not. I've seen a lot of people attempt to remove dents themselves and for some it looks much worse than before.

Thanks for the replies.

Trevork, I asked quote from body shop, it ranges from 1k to 1.5k.

I wonder if there is any write up on how to remove INTERIOR TRUNK PANEL?

Look at page 33. You can find all the drawings and a step by step description of how to take the rear of the apart.

Look at the parent directery. You can find the index page of the Factory Service Manual (section FWD). As far as I remember, in the EXT section, it describes the rear bumper removal as well.

I have actually heard, many times, that a plunger, yes I said plunger will work to pop a dent back out. Never tried it, and never seen it done.
quick google search

Hi folks,

Today I took out the trunk side trim. It looks like there are two layers of sheet metal, the dent is the outer layer, the inner layer is intact. I tried to pop out the dent from inside. No luck so far.

I am thinking of dropping the bumper, then pull out the dent? Any suggestions or thoughts? I am fairly inexperienced with body auto. Please share your experience with me.

try and drill a hole on the inner side, and push through the hole.

that works if you can get the mouth of the plunger around the dent, or atleast on sheet metal. you have to create suction. since his car has a bumper - that would remove any chances of suction.

often times its best to use a hair drier/heat gun and a can of keyboard air can upside down.

You might want to check out a paintless repair shop in your area. They have special tools and experience for pushing out dents if the paint is not cracked. Their prices are a lot less than a collision shop. Google "paintless car repair" and your town to find a shop like this:

How are you planning to "pull out the dent" with the bumper removed? Just by literally pulling on it with your hands?

I would caution you that there is a chance you could make things worse if you haven't done this before. I don't know what your Rogue is worth to you however if you did something like crack the paint when flexing it again you would, in my opinion, have a much bigger problem on your hands.
