Hey all,

I am in need of some solid subwoofer recommendations for my 2002 Pathfinder. My main concern is whether you guys recommend 1 or 2 subs. I've only driven smaller cars before in which 1 sub has always been sufficient. But, with the Pathy being an SUV and having more internal airspace, I'm wondering if I need to go with 2.

Additionally, I just installed aftermarket speakers consisting of Polk MMC6500 components in the front and MM651 coaxials in the rear. I bypassed the Bose system and am powering them by an Alpine PDX 4.100 (100W RMS per channel). All my doors are deadened. I want my subs to be able to match this system without going overboard.

I would prefer to go with only 1 sub as it will be cheaper and take up less space, but don't want blindly install 1 sub only to find that it's insufficient down the road. For those of you who have subs in your Pathys, what recommendations do you have? Keep in mind that I don't want to go overboard and turn my Pathy into a rattling piece of sheet metal, but at the same time want to be able to crank out some bass when listening to Weezy at higher volumes.

I was looking at subs that are somewhere in the middle of the SPL-SQ continuum, and would probably go with a ported box. I have neither the experience or tools to fabricate my own sub box, so am looking at prebuilt sub enclosures.

So far I am considering:Kicker Solo-Baric L5 Sub Enclosure - single 12" or double 10"JL Audio single 12" 3v3 H.O. EnclosureMTX ThunderSquare or ThunderRound enclosures -- I like the looks of these but have read bad reviews

LAST BUT NOT LEAST - Most of the single subs I am looking at have a peak RMS rating of about 600W - double this amount for the double sub enclosures. My PDX is currently drawing 400W for the speakers. Depending on what sub setup I decide to go with I'll be looking at an amp that puts out anywhere from an additional 500 - 1200W. I do not intend on upgrading my stock battery/alternator or making any modifications to my existing OEM electrical system. Please let me know if you think going with 2 subs (and therefore a more powerful amplifier) will draw too much current from my stock electrical system and cause "issues" (i.e. flashing headlights, etc.).

All input is greatly appreciated in my quest for the ultimate Pathy sub!

Erik
