i just installe dmy used SAFC NEO on my sohc s13.its stock 5 speed. after i installed i performed the throttle calibration and then attempted to start it. at this point the car ran like crap it started sputtering and tryin to die and didnt want to idle. after giving it gas i drove it aroudn the block in which case the sputtering got worse like it was running on only two cylinders and it die i pulle dover and smoke was coming out of the intake box????? i drove it back hoem where it sits. now the previous owner im sure was turboed so i was wondering if the neo retains its earlier settings even after being unplugged and removed from the ecu. fast response is greatly appreciated as this is my daily driver. help?

Err.. First, why do you have a SAFC on a stock motor? Honestly the only benefits of doing so would be fuel consumption, you could lean it out a LITTLE bit and get better MPG. Other than that, you should really just take out the SAFC and save/sell it for a turbo app. For now, just disable your SAFC and leave well enough alone, you dont need it if its your daily.

You need to do a bit of research on the SAFC if you still want to use it. You need to figure out how to set it up. Still though man, theres no good reason for you to have one.

OK Homey,

having the NEO on there is not a bad thing at all. That way once you have your car running with it on in NA mode you know it will work with the turbo.

Now I'm not sure about the NEO, but on the previous safc you had to setup the, MAF type, Arrow up and to the right, and the in and out settings.

Also make sure the NEO doesn't have any fuel corrections in it.

Those are about the only important things I would check out right now.

yea the neo had the previous owners turbo settings saved on it so it was running on his tune basically. BAD IDEA sinc ehe had a z32 maf and my car is all stock. i got everythign reset unplugged the neo replaced the plug sit fouled out . now my car idles very low and very poorly and puffs white smoke. i noticed if i unpllag the maf there is not difference in it running it only pauses for second to miss and then resumes running like crap. any suggestions?

You need to go into the SAFC settings area and initialize the SAFC. This will set all your settings back to what it was right out of the box. Then you need to set how many cylinders, with the arrow pointing up. Next, you need to play with the MAF settings. I think on a stock motor its either 2 in 2 out or 5 in 5 out. Just play with them until it idles well. You dont need to mess with high throttle/low throttle, or any of the fuel maps, because your ECU can do that on its own.

So the NEO is no longer installed? If so, did you have the ground wires in the correct spot and not spliced into the same splice?

Verify that all of the fuel correction settings are 0. Do you have a wide band? What are the TPS readings? Whats the MAF reading?
