I'm getting a set of Work wheels in 17x7 front and 17x8 rear with a +45 offset for my 92 240sx. Having never really dealt with staggering tire size due to many year in a FWD and a few months in a RWD, I'm not sure exactly how to decide on tire size.

I'd like something fairly wide for traction (since my SR20det is ready to go in) with a stiff side wall because I'm pretty agressive when I take corners. I'm not looking to drift or drag, but an occasional run may occur.

Wet traction is a concern too as it's been pouring here for the past month and even in my Accord I'm having traction problems with 17s. I've tried the Sumitomos, Fuldas, and Falkens and haven't found anything thats really great. The Sumis were the best of the group, the Fuldas were just all around junk, and the Falkens just didn't last.

I guess what I'm trying to ask is what would be the best tire sizes for front and rear, and what tires should I look into for good traction in the wet yet not a crappy ride. Think daily driven weekend warrior.

215-45-17 front and 235-40-17 rear would be nice, and keep your speedo quite accurate. Why did you get sucha high offset wheel? at a minimum the offset should be 40mm, with a wider wheel, you'd want to go lower. Those wheels will probably not clear coilovers(rear might).

anyways, you could also run a 225-45-17 and 245-40-17, anlthough that would be squeazing a bit on the rer wheel(and would be more prone to scrub on the front, supposing the 215-45-17 didnt).

as for tire reccomendations, check out the sickies(tire FAQ) and tire racks reviews,

but my favortire hi-po wet traction tires are the pilot sport A/S by far. THe S-03 is also a nice tire in the rain. (yes, both of those tires ARE expensive...but you already tried the less expensive brands and didnt like them.)

if money is a concern, try the yokohama AVS ES-100, many people run those and are pleased with the results.-chet

Well, it wasn't my personal choice of offsets but the wheels are gorgeous and the price was pretty nice. I rode the car for about a month on the 17s from my Accord with 215/45/17s and didn't have any issues with rubbing and those have a +45 offset.

Of course I'm not lowered at all yet and I haven't decided if I really NEED coilovers or not. I'm used to Eibach pros on Bilstein shocks and I'm rather fond of the handling characteristics of them so I don't know if I can justify the price difference of coilovers.

If I do decide on coilovers, whats the word on spacers for the wheels to get them out a bit? I know there are different type and quality spacers out there but I've never seen anything in depth on them except for the spacer/adapters that the "homies" are using around here to get FWD wheels to fit RWD cars with different lug patterns.
