Hi guys....I need some help. I installed some Kicker 3 1/2" dash speakers (90 watts) and Pioneer 6 1/2" (3-way / 300 watts) front door speakers in my car. I have some Pioneer 6 x 9 (5-way / 600 watts) for my rear, but haven't installed those yet, so I still have the stock in the rear. With the new dash and front speakers installed, it isn't sounding that great; there isn't much bass. I guess they are over-powering the rear? Is that because of the stock rear speakers? Also, when the 6 x 9's are installed, will it sound better with it being 5-way and will I get some good bass?

there are some audiophiles on here who I'm sure will chime in, but the speakers you have in the front aren't really meant to produce bass. the 6x9's will add some bass. normally you would get a component speaker set which has a separate mid-bass driver in the front. in your case since you have already bought your speakers, if you are not happy with the bass produced from the 6x9's, I would add a 10" sub.

I am not a true audiophile but I do love a good system! Most importantly did you replace the factory HU? That will give you some gains in power due to the stock HU not pumping out that much RMS power. Plus an aftermarket HU will give you more EQ control. And to answer your question, yes installing the rears will increase the bass a little bit but like Mike said if you want noticeable increase you will have to get a subwoofer.

My setup is a JVC KW double din HU, with 6 1/2 polk speakers with silk-dome tweeters in the front and 6 x 9 5-way silk tweeter polks in the the back with a JL 10inch sub in the very back. With the sub turned off my setup still has a better kick than all my friends stock cars.

Honestly the best advice I can give from experience is :nono: DO NOT :nono: cheap out on audio equipment. Go on crutchfield.com and look at nice higher end speakers and build up from there. Their staff is extremely helpful and will hold your hand the whole time to get the perfect set up. Personally I would shy away from pioneer/kicker/sony speakers and shoot for mid to high range brands like rockford, polk, something that will give you the sound and reliability you want without breaking the bank. Obviously this is future advice since you will want to upgrade eventually :D I went through several sets of speakers before I found my current setup which I absolutely love and I am still improving it.

Best of luck! :dblthumb:

Hey! Yes, I did replace the stock head unit with the Pioneer AVH-5500BHS double-din. The dash, front, and rear speakers I first looked up on Crutchfield and then got them at a much cheaper price on ebay. I got the Kicker 40CS354 for the dash, Pioneer TS-A1675R for the front, and Pioneer TS-A6995R for the rear. I installed the dash (which was a BIG pain) and the front speakers and then had a shop install the rear for $25. The rear speakers sound real good and pushing ALOT of bass. I'm not looking for a big system, just something with good bass and these rear speakers have it! I'm content. :)

Part of the reason your new speakers sound worse is that they don't have enough power from your stock radio. Improving your sound system isn't as easy as just replacing components. The entire system needs to be designed from the beginning as an entire "system." Keeping the stock speakers and changing the radio alone probably would have yielded better results overall. At this point I would add an aftermarket radio OR a four channel amplifier.
